  • Problem with Fridge

So I have a 4-5 year old Frigidaire refridgerator that is having some issues. The "freezer" portion works just fine, makes ice fine, etc. but the refrigerated section does not appear to be working correctly (much warmer). From what I've been able to read online its either ice buildup on the evap coils (defrost heater not working) or an air diffuser / damper control issue.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is this something that I could do myself or will I have to call an Appliance repair person? Anyone have someone they could recommend that services the Haltom City/NRH/Mid-Cities area?

The most likely cause is ice build up. Most refrigerators cool their main compartment with air from the freezer compartment. These coils can get frozen if the defrost timer or heat element is not working. When it freezes up, air cant pass thru the coils and the main compartment temperature increases.

Back in the day when my old fridge would do this, I would pull off the back panel in the freezer and thaw it with a blow dryer. If I was lazy I would pull everything out and place a large pot of hot water in the freezer to speed up thawing. If its a frost free fridge (and most are) you need to find out why its freezing up. Could even be low on freon.
