  • Soaker Hoses

Do you place these next to your foundation or a few inches away from it? I've heard two different things about these. I currently have mine place right up next to my foundation.

My question is.... How do the work best?

i've always put them about 12-18 inches away from the foundation. you don't want them directly next to the foundation; that can cause some major problems. if the soaker hose is put against the foundation, the water will eventually create a separation between the soil and the foundation and pool up at the bottom of the foundation/beam, causing the foundation to drop. now, i'm no expert, but i do play one on tv...and i've had several properties that i've had foundation work done on...this seems to be the advice that they all give.

Do you bury it or leave it on top?

Can you repair them? I have a brand new one that is ripped.

I ran mine 12 inches out. You can bury them down 6 inches, but I'd get annoyed with replacing them when they fail.

i don't bury them, because they get clogged, they're a pain in the butt to replace, etc. i'd probably do it, if i had it covered by some gravel, so it wasn't just dirt surrounding it.

I never thought about some gravel. Good idea.
