  • Decided to put a pool in at my house...

Does anyone know if it's worth waiting until winter to get a pool installed? I keep reading/hearing that pool sales are down 75% and some great deals could be had.

I was going to wait to install a pool when I build my new house, but it's going to be 10 solid years before I can build the house I want, so I might as well enjoy the house I'm in now.

I dont know about winter discounts. They say that about boats too but I can never tell the difference. I think concrete prices are still down and that may help.

One of my clients bought a large house in Heath, TX and hired Hobart Pools. Was a large custom built. They had nothing but good things to say about ALL the trades that came in to work for them. All were very professional. In my area, King Pools has put in three pools in the last year.

And of course the cautionary statement about the pool as investment value. My real estate guy said it can add no more than $8-10K no matter how much you spent to build it. Maybe some others will chime in with more recent numbers but they are almost always a losing proposition.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for it to be an "investment" of any kind. If I knew I was going to leave in 4-5 years I wouldn't do it, but since it looks like I'm going to live here for 10 or so years, I can enjoy it, then when I do decide to sell it can be a selling point.

Pools are great investments, for fun. I can't tell you how many tits I saw in our hottub in the 2 years we had ours!

A pool that is 10yrs or less old would give you a market value of about 10k for most pools. Now if you have some 100k pool we can talk different #'s as far as what to list your property for.

You are going to loose your ass if you decide to build a pool and see yourself moving in the next 5 years but if you have the bread to build one and you see yourself getting some enjoyment out of it then I say fu(king go for it! Let me know if you need a referral.

I, on the other hand, have not heard good things about King Pools...

What have you heard? I have only seen the signs up in my area where they are installing. Havent talked to any homeowners yet. My VP was REAL pleased with Hobart.

I did have King on my list of prospective builders when my dads estate gets settled.

When we looked at pools I had a former coworker who went to work at Hobat. Even with his discount, they were WAAAAAAY overpriced. We used Mermaid Pools, but they closed down a couple years ago when the economy went to shit.

The pool Hobart quoted us was smaller than what we had built, and about $18,000 higher.

Don't even get me started on Blue Haven (I think it was them). Fucker said we didn't look like we could afford a pool. He was quickly asked to get the fuck out.

I used Accent Pools in Arlington. They are a family owned business and have been doing pools for quite a while. They were great working with and were VERY competitive on the pricing. They have also stood behind ANY issues we have had, which have only been minor, normal wear on plastic parts.

Mermaid didnt close down because of the economy, they got bought out by someone. The guy then ran off with alot of customers deposits..these customers were left with only the concrete shell of the pool built. They were then responsible for paying the sub-contractors for the work that was performed, because they didnt get paid by mermaid..Its too bad because mermaid was one of the good high end pool builders

Just use someone from http://masterpoolsguild.com/buildersearch.asp it might be more expensive but remember you get what you pay for.
