  • Anyone have granite countertops installed lately?

I'm looking at having the laminate countertops in my kitchen replaced with some granite slabs. Has anyone had this done recently? I priced them about a year ago or so and it was around $40-45/sq. ft., but a coworker told me that the price has come way down since then. True? I've only got about 75sq ft to do, but it's a little bit elaborate around an island with a tall curb and ledge. Anyway, just wanted to see how prices were looking.

I think I saw some for $35 / sqft at the shop Monday when I went to order floor tile for my guest bath.

$35 or so for "builder selection" stuff (common colors/patterns), $200 for tear-out, and figure $250-$350 for an undermount sink (stainless sink and fabrication. Remember you'll need new plumbing fixtures, too. More than likely, you'll want to redo your backsplash also.

There's a few companies that offer a few colors for 25/ft on craigslist. ...undermount sinks usually run around 200 or so more with the cut and sink.

Shoot me a PM. That's in the price range I had heard from my buddy. I'm not REAL picky on the particular style as long as it looks fine.

Shoot me their contact info if you have it laying around. If not, I can look it up.

BTW, the laminate in my house when I bought it is WHITE! I hate worrying about koolaid or coffee stains or something on it. I also work on the countertop a bit when cooking and like how hard the granite is in comparison.

Damn for those prices I may do my counter in the laundry room this winter. We did our kitchen counters August '09 and used some one from the other board HEDGIEsomething.

If I can find the guy I used for tile he was super cheap. $420 materials and labor to do roughly 60ft of tile backsplash. I remember the name CT or TC.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

This is the company that I used about 6-8 months ago...they offered just about any color in 3cm for 25/ft. Amy wanted Tropic Brown, which their supplier didn't have enough of, so I bought the slabs elsewhere and had them do the installation. They did undermount sinks in the restrooms and kitchen for pretty cheap too.

I did granite tile over my laminate countertops. Total cost was about $200 and I get a ton of compliments on them. I got the granite tile from Quality Surpluss right here in Lake Dallas for a great price. They are 16" tiles.
