  • Complete A/C upgrade?

I currently have a tired 2 1/2 ton ac system in my 1800sq ft single story house. Anyone have a rough estimate on what Im looking at to upgrade to a newer, slightly bigger system?

if you upgrade, you'll likely want to go to a 4-ton unit. check with these two, and see what they say:

    214-317-9066

    armando
    972-877-1990

just tell them that brad told you to call.

Wow - 2.5 ton seems small for a house that large unless its super insulated/efficient.

One more question for Brad, we are planning on selling the house in the next year and as it is, the A/C works fine but its just undersized. Would it help with the sale to replace it or is it money I wont ever see back?

You might not get it all back but it WILL make it easier to sell! Plus your bills will go down and the house should be much more comfortable till you do sell it. I WOULD go with a heat pump and the highest sear rating you can afford. Both save money on electricity. You also need a 4 ton unit for that size house. Another number to call if your South Ft worth/South Arlington, Burleson area is Wayne Cooper with Cooper AC. 817-875-4369 He's as honest as they come and has good prices..Tell him William refered you.

Wow that is good. I had a guy quote me 2700 when he was doing the new Police Dept set up. I thought that was pretty good because I had a friends "friend" quote me like 4700 the other day. I need some vent work done though. If you close my bedroom door it kills the cooling and heating on the house. One giant vent in the bedroom right off the unit and little small non insulated plastic hoses running to the rest of the house. It did help alot when I re insulated the attic and it buried most of them.
                        Whos your Daddy?

sounds like you are having return air issues, how big is the gap at the bottom of the door when closed? and duct work is cheap, you can reduct a whole hose foreasily under 800

Just an old unit really. No gaps under the doors but I have a door inside of a door for the mastiff and I am sure the plastic flap is not great. Had the same on my old house and after I put a bigger unit on and better venting in the roof it would freeze you out at 76-78 degrees. I need to get some better movement in the attic first i think. I am like Lason though, this bitch is gonna be on the market in a year and just want it to make it.

oh and my vaulted ceinling makes getting to 75 percent of the attic a real bitch. My insulater had to lay down and hand over hand it to get to the other side one time. Then he realized he dropped his phone on the other side after he crwaled back. LOL

if there isn't a gap, there's part of the problem, the are is not returning to the unit to be recirculated. you said if the door is open it helps, so will making sure there is a 3/4 to 1 inch gap at the bottom of your (interior) doors.
