  • Big Thanks to 90vert!

90vert (Jamie) came out with a couple guys this last weekend and knocked out a 100 ft french drain with 2 downspout hookups. He also deconstructed our massive, and hideous, steel storage building on the side. It was a pieced together shed created by the previous owner. It was a LONG day and I hate digging shit up, so him and his guys really bailed me out. I couldn't have done it without their help, which was also extremely reasonable.

    Here are some before pics:

I'll get some after pics tonight and post them up. I still have to finish fixing some wood rot and the roof of the enclosed patio, get new gutters done and then build a retaining wall. After that we'll be sodding and putting up a new smaller and nicer resin storage shed on the side.

I highly suggest PM'ing 90vert if you guys need any of this type of work done. He really knows what he's talking about when it comes to this type of stuff. He's a genuine guy that will shoot you straight and bust his ass to help you out.

I'd PM 90vert and talk to him about it if you need an estimate. He's just starting up and doing things on the side of his day-to-day grind. He cut me a great deal because of that and for being a reference, so you'd really need to talk to him about pricing, etc.

Good luck though, it's a TON of work to try to take on by yourself, especially if you're not using a trencher!

Ok, so here's the current pics after the drain was installed and the shed removed.

Front of house where drain starts:

I'll remove the bag from the 9"x9" catch basin once the the dirt has packed down a bit more.

          Shed is gone!

Damn that freed up a ton of space...

It's not a "true" french drain with a drywell, but after talking to Jamie and my neighbors (they all did drains with pop-ups at the end of their property) we did a pop-up at the end as that seemed best. We basically ran the pipe the same way water had been flowing for years, it'll just be flowing underground instead of eroding the top of my yard. Now I just have to finish up the patio repairs, get gutters on, build the retaining wall and sod... lol

Thanks man, I slept like a baby after hand digging all day in the sun, lol. It was nice to meet you and your wife, good luck to you guys on having a baby. Hopefully the drain will work well for you and if you have any problems just give me a call and I will come address it. Thanks for giving me the chance to get your business and being patient with my schedule.

I'm also glad you let me talk you out of digging the sump and found middle ground on the pop up because I know that you would not have gotten the results you expected with a sump. Thanks Again.

Now that you have that problem fixed I hope you build your soil line back up around your foundation in the back. From the top edge of the foundation you should only have a max of about 8" of foundation visible to the soil line. The rest of that exposed foundation needs to have compacted soil around it. If left like it is in the pictures you could have unwanted foundation problems.
