  • pool plumbing question

My pump is having a really hard time priming. I found a leak but my knowledge of pvc is zero. The leak is between the faucet above the pump basket and the t.

Is there anything I can seal that seam with? Other than that I would have to cut it out and I think the black fittings are pool specific (I guess?) and probably a lot more expensive. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Slow priming usually is leaks on the suction side or a restriction. You might try some silicone around the area where you see the leak and see if that improves it.

cut out the bad spot and put in a slip joint, little primer and pvc glue and your done , also regular thick wall white pvc is fine for pools.

Those black attachments can be bought online or your local supply store. Leslie's has them for sure. Get a length of 2" PVC and guesstimate the 90s and 45s you need. Its super easy, just test fit everything, then glue it!
