If it is that bad then drain, pressure wash and refill. Screw all that running the filter for 24/7 and throwing gobs of shock in it..You will fight it for 2 Weeks.

Or you can drain, clean and refill in 1 weekend

This is what I was doing but the pump even set on waiste wasn't moving as much water as it should . What about the risk of the pool coming out of the ground . This was a problem in Florida because of the water table but I am not sure about here .

you can buy a "leaf picker upper thing" at the pool store, works like a champ and not that exspensive.

rent a sump pump, don't subject the pools plumbing and pump to that kind of abuse.

DE = Diatomaceous Earth. Had a DE filter in the pool at the old house. DE must be getting in on the filtered side of the pressure line somewhere.

i have serviced around 4-5k pools in the past 15 years. I have seen 3 pools popped..2 had been drained for a long time and the other was drained for 1 week and during that week it rained about 5 inches..you will only have it drained for 1 day and the chance of it popping is very very slim..I have drained many of swamps with no problem.

You can rent a sump pump at home depot for 40 bucks, it will drain the pool in about 4 hours, wash it out and throw the water hose back in..Much easier and usually cheaper then trying to clear a swamp with decomposed leaves on the bottom

One way to check to see if you have a pipe/pool leak is to get a bucket and fill it with some water and mark it. Put it on the top step and check in a day or so. Mark your pool level also next to the bucket.

The rental pump kicked ass . That shit stunk up the whole neighborhood but its done . Cleaned the impeller and checked the filter . It is a sand filter and looks good . The pool is clean as new and filling . Another 1 1/2 ft of water and I will fire up the pump and see what happens . Wish me luck and thanks guys for all the advice .

great! im really glad u did the drain option. I have seen so many people waste so much time trying to clear a swamp..its just not worth the time or money to do it that way

Now throw in about 5lbs of shock and 10lbs of conditioner and you will be set.

The pump and filter are up and running . I am still having the low flow problem . The pressure gauge just bounces a little . It only jumps from 0 to 1 . I have 3 returns into the pool and only the one closest to the pump has any flow . The basket on the pump has flow but it never fills all the way up . The pump has a kind of moaning/grinding sound . So I am leaning toward the pump but is there a way to test it before I buy a new one ?

sounds like you have a clog on the suction side, you may need someone to come blow the line out. Or you can use a fitting for your water hose and try that by sticking it down the skimmer line. Try that first then focus on the pump itself. What brand pump is it?

Where do I get that fitting ? My pump is a Hayward Super II pump self priming model K48m2n110 and the filter is a Hayward Pro Series high rate sand filter model s244s . I think this problem developed last year when I was sweeping the pool . It had great suction and I had allot of leaves and crap and lost suction about halfway thru . Its never been the same since . I used to be able to shut the skimmer door and it would suck the whole dry in seconds , now it wont even suck it down past the skimmer basket .
