Woke up this morning and thought that my power was out, it turns out it is only the power in my bedroom.. I go down stairs to look at the breakers and none are showing to be tripped. I flip them on and off anyways and go back upstairs and the power is on. My entertainment and computer stuff are plugged up on adjoining walls so I thought it would be best to unplug some of the stuff that i don't use as much that sort of thing. In the process of doing this the power went back out to everything including the ceiling fan and light. Tried playing with the breaker box again and no dice as to getting power up there..

    Ideas suggestions thoughts?? Thanks

I just got back home from work and switched the light switch up there.. A light flickered for a second then went out. Is there a GFI for an entire room that's different than one on say a plug in the bathroom?? If so how would I go about locating it?

So this morning I did some more screwing around with this problem... I found a wall socket right under a window pane had burnt up.. I had the windows cracked during at least one of the storms last week so I'm not entirely shocked(no pun intended) by this. I replaced the socket and everything seems to be back to normal.. My question now is should i be worried that something happening didn't even physically trip the breaker? Ground wire didn't completely burn up but the plastics around the socket are pretty warped to hell on the inside..

i'd be willing to bet that you have an issue where they "stabbed" the wires in the back of the receptacles and one is very loose. if you turn on the lights and go around and push/pull (by plugging something in and unplugging it) on the receptacles, you'll probably notice your lights start to flicker, when you find the one with the loose connection. turn off the power, remove the receptacle, wrap the wires around the screws, tighten them down, re-install the receptacle, and turn the power back on and your problem will be fixed. the problem-receptacle will likely be one that is used a lot...check those first.

stang is right.....good word of advice is wrap the wire clockwise so tightening doesnt cause it to back off. also copper or aluminum? if the connections arent tight it will generate heat and then you have your melted outlet
