  • chicago school kids not allowed to bring own lunch!

can you believe a bunch of dim witted voters elected a lawyer from chicago to run this great nation of ours?

I would like to hear from the liberals and democrats, because it is their party that supports bullshit like this.

honestly , it's your party ...... is this acceptable to you ?

welcome to the nanny state of amerika

How can us taxpayers buy their lunch for them if they bring it from home?

Next will come the lawsuits from the kids who have allergies and are forced to eat at school.

Friday used to be PB&J at my kid's school. Now, they get cheese sandwiches because some mouth breather's kid has a peanut allergy. Boo fucking hoo. I get the seriousness of this, I just wonder what has changed recently that has made these kids SO allergic to peanuts. Peanut allergies have always existed, it just seems that people are going overboard now. One kid has an allergy, and it gets taken away from everyone else.

I can see the purpose of this. Obesity is a huge problem. Especially among lower classes. Lower class people, and neighborhoods are targeted by McDonald's and the likes. I just don't think this is the correct way to go about it. At the very least, they could have used a little common sense and done this under the guise of a proactive food allergy prevention. "With so many food allergies running rampant, we want to be proactive in suiting the conditions for some of our children with allergies. By not allowing food to pack their own lunches, we are ensuring no peanuts, etc make their way in to the school and cause a potentially fatal situation with our students with food allergies." Dumbasses.

It really is. A lot more kids die from head injuries and gun accidents. Hell, a lot more kids drown in swimming pools than will ever die from food allergies. Bee stings too, do you see the schools going crazy about bees or wasps?

            The situation is ridiculous.

It is ridiculous, but I am also aware of situations where kids have died due to peanut exposure. I just don't really buy the whole "dust" thing. I can see the one student being fed seperately. But not allowing peanuts or peanut derivatives in the building at all? Don't take away everyone else's PB&J sammiches. Kenny now brings his own lunch on Fridays, because who the fuck wants to eat a sorry ass cheese sammich?

I find it weird that everyone is fighting for PB&J. I remember when I was in school PB&J was more of the food you ate when you didn't have anything else. Weird.

Reason #453628953 to drop the public school system. Glad mine aren't a part of it.

I'm not fighting for it per se. But PB&J Fridays was something my kiddo looked forward to. Just like buying doughnuts every Friday morning at school. It's just habit, something he enjoyed, and had grown accustomed to. Then one kid enrolls that has a peanut allergy, and it ruined it for everyone else.

Denny - It isn't just public school.

Ya, but still a good reason to drop it.

I had a level 4 allergy to peanuts at one point. My ex-husband could eat a payday bar on the way home from work, and if he touched me before washing his hands, I'd have welps anywhere on my body he touched, from the oil on his finger tips.

That being said, PB&H was a staple of the kids' diet at that point, so I was cautious when I handled it. I actually wore nitrile gloves, would pre-rinse the knife I used with a paper towel, stick it in the dish washer, cleaned the counter tops, had them throw their trash away, clean their table, and shuffle them into the bathroom to wash their faces and hands, and unglove.

It was a PITA for sure, but it's what I did to keep my kids happy and watch my health, and I didn't have to worry about some dumbass suing me because I had a reaction to peanuts.
