Something a lot of people don't know: the CBO publishes the standard GAAP statements of financials for the United States annually. The assumptions they use should be core curriculum for every accounting/finance student for "identifying aggressive assumptions". Even by the CBO assumptions, it's bad. I'm all for any plan that will at least begin to address the issue.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Hell I'd have to ask Sandy Leeds or Lew Spellman. They're there, I've seen them. A quick search yielded this, which has the US at about $13.5 trillion negative equity at a quick glance:

That's the singularly most hysterical balance sheet I've seen yet. Did they just come up with asset and liability figures and then fill in the gap with an arbitrary equity figure that they squeezed for?

A Flat Tax, a Fair Tax or any Per Cent Tax is not the answer. The only really fair way is a "Head Tax" where EVERYONE pays the same tax. You might be surprised how little it might be if all citizens paid. Why should a man who works 80 hours a week pay more taxes that a guy who says, "I'm not working any overtime. I'm going home at quitting time." Every citizen gets the same rights, so why not pay the same taxes ? It's just like property taxes. Why should a person with a $ 500,000 house pay more tax than a person with a $ 100,000 house ? They both drive on the same street, drink from the same water line, and have the same protection from the fire department and police. And the big thing...........they both get ONE vote at the ballot box. I guess I am a hard ass, but I'm tired of paying and others do not. I heard the other day that a Democrat Senator was trying to get a bill through that would make a person who owned a classic car pay 10% of the value each year since classic car owners are rich. How soon will a classic car be anything over 5 years old and with a V-8 engine ? Think about that. There is an older Dentist in my town (about 70) who still works every day. His driver since about 1960 is a 1957 T Bird 2 4BBl car. I think it is his only car, and he drives it every day. Should he have to pay $ 3000 a year just to drive the car he wants to drive ? Wake up America..........we are in a shit pot and about to get flushed !

Isn't it the land they occupy that makes their taxes more? I mean if you could have 4 $100,000 houses sit on the same lot as a $500,000 house doesn't that mean he should be paying for the "space" taken?

I don't really understand how homeowners taxes work as I am still new to the home owner scene but that was always my understanding on that.

It's based on the appraised value of the property (house + land).

So I am partially correct then? Just want to make sure I am understanding it correctly myself.

The space or size of the land or house has nothing to do with it. Only the land/property value.

The head tax sounds interesting, but I like the flat tax. If someone is old and poor and they don't spend much money because they don't have much, then why should they pay a tax they can't afford. Let the people who consume the most pay the most. Another thing are the illegals who are undocumented and flying under the radar. How is the tax going to be collected from them? Since they spend their money too, then a flat tax would insure that they pay their share when they spend it (except for what they send back to their country, unless money sent out of the country is taxed too.)

AbsoFUCKINGlutely not! If we tax them, they'll get amnesty. I don't think ANYONE here illegally should get amnesty, and I don't give a fuck that this means they will be paying taxes. They broke the fucking law, and need to go back home and try it again the legal way.

Partially correct. The taxes on the $500,000 house are higher primarliy because of the home's value. If it were instead based primarily on the value of the land (or "space" taken), a $100,000 house and a $500,000 house on the same sized lot would carry the same property tax liability.

Head tax doesnt work because of poverty.. All those ninjas couldnt afford their taxes. Fair tax gets my vote. Everyone pays based on what they buy. The more you make, the more you spend, the more you are taxed...easy as that. Poor fuckers will think twice when buying their cigarettes and their milk.
