I can see being fat, but smoking? I smoke and have no health issues. What next? People who don't take care of themselves tax?

You don't get sick overnight from smoking, it takes years. My mom died of lung cancer at 54 and my brother just had a bilateral lung transplant at 56, both were lifetime smokers.

My brother's operation was well over $350k plus whatever 37 days in critical care is going to cost, also his meds are over $10k a month now. He'll be on a strict no sodium diet for the rest of his life and if he ever catches the flu or even a cold there is a good chance he'll die from it.

But hey, he sure enjoyed those cigarettes for 30+ years.

Really, this is just an extension on the sin tax cash grab. And I'm ok with that.

I do see the slippery slope side of it, but sin tax already exists and has for a long while.

They live shorter life spans than white and most don't get social security benefits, so it equals out.
