I THINK (therefore I'm not speaking for anyone), what he maybe implying is war should be fought like it was in WWII or even to a certain extent Vietnam.

I'm not sure or not if he's supporting sport killing civilians or not. If he is, I'm not sure if he has any .... qualifications to go a long with it.

Personally, I'm not going to miss or weep over civilians from countries that support terrorists. Why? Mainly because they won't revolt against the people that kill our people. In many ways, in my book they are just passive/aggressively just supporting it.

At the same time, I understand our country's rules and will not weep over some troops getting court martialed. Full blown warfare is a lot different then using fingers and stuff as gambling chips. (if true)

No, I do not support the killing of civilians and got shot protecting innocent civilians. However, the majority of those "civilians" are combatants who threw their weapons down when we got past their fire and screamed "CIVILIAN!" Bullshit. You have a weapon NEAR you, you're a combatant.

This is EXACTLY what I'm saying. Fight it like we did in WW1 and 2. Tell civilians to leave and anyone left they are fair game. If we receive fire from a building, destroy it completely.

I don't think anyone is gonna disagree you. Going from safe to fire because you perceive a threat is one thing. Nobody on this board is going to armchair quarterback a scared or even cautious soldiers actions. See a car racing at your convoy 10 years into this war with a single driver talking to himself; damn straight I am going hot and feeding him lead.

BUT

These guys set out with the intentions of murdering civilians. If they kill them as a reaction to contact or the propensity to create contact I am 100% fine with that. What does not sit well with me is hearing these young troopers plotted the MURDER (read of non combatants) of these civilians.

I know the ROE sucks it has sucked since day one and is actually even worse here in Afghanistan. But once again that is what sets apart from these civilians who pick up arms and make them combatants and the US fighting forces.

Killing innocent civilians worsens the situation and puts our service members in greater danger because the Talib/ACF use it as propaganda against us. It is bad enough that they make up shit but when they have proof that this stuff goes on it is much easier to turn that farmer into an IED planter.

Actions of violence directed to the right individuals is one thing this is something totaly uncalled for. If you can't see that I am sorry.

edit: before I get questioned about my qualities to speak on this as a civilian now. I spent 4 yrs active duty in the Marine Corps, have been in Afg for near 5 years, been hit by an IED with no other contact to follow (read: didn't have a chance to retaliate, just had to sit there with a fucked up vehicle my ringing head and take it like a bitch), have been hit with IDF, complex attacks directed at the FOB, small arms etc. I have been in towers feeding 240s/.50s/MK19s cans and cans of ammo to repel guys that needed to be removed from the topsoil. I have NOT been on a partol and been ambushed though nor do I want to be.

Morlock, the first of the five to be court-martialed, was sentenced last week to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of murder, as well as conspiracy and other charges. He said the killings were part of a deliberate plan to murder Afghan civilians.

I fully get your want to stand behind a troop. But there comes a time when you have to break contact to prevent damage to yourself. The acts these young men are accused of (one convicted already) are NOT the acts that the people at home come to respect you for. Cutting up murdered civilians and keeping body parts for souvineers . I have seen tons of dead bodies out here and not once did I think "oh cool a photo op." or "I thing I want that finger".

think about it...if those civilians that got intentionally killed. had family that supported us,

Yeah since the news would never spin it, the bad thing is we weren't there, we don't know the enitre story only what the media puts out. I agree the war trophies is wrong, however how do you know they weren't armed before throwing their weapons down and yelling CIVILIAN. If they (terrorists) were so worried about civilians getting killed they would wear uniforms, they don't for a reason.
