I am glad you said insurgents. They (the army kill squad dudes) planned out the murder of civilians. You are right, HUGE difference.

You do know that it doesn't matter if the person we kill is guilty or inncent, we still pay off the family and they still hate us.

Sorry, but creating "imaginary" enemy combatants is going to only create real ones.

I can understand taking out someone you THINK is a threat, but when reports show that a young farmer they killed wasnt a threat at all, and then you pose and cut his finger off? Who do you think the father is going to turn to to tell when the next American patrol is rolling through.

It doesnt help that the SSGT in charge of this "kill-team" was a social misfit who likely would be in prison if he wasnt enlisted (for other crimes, not the kill team stuff). I know I know, welcome to the military, but when you represent the US, you gotta be a better man than that.

The problem with this is less the kill-team, its how it was handled, and then attempted to be covered up.

There is a lot of talk about letting the soldier loose to do what they were trained to do. I am here to tell you that no American service members were ever taught to plan out the murders of civilians.

We are not occupying this country. We are trying to add stability in order for the Afghani government gain enough ground to stand on their own; hence no more Taliban and no more Al Qaeda. The Taliban ruled here from 1995aprox-2001 when we came and knocked them off their pedestal. The Taliban harbored Al Qaeda and their terrorist training camps. When they refused to give up OBL we came in for him and they paid the price. We will continue to eradicate the Taliban to prevent them from coming back to power.

At the same time we are still trying to bring this country back into modern times so they will be able to understand that life is better without them inviting Talib back into their lives. We are teaching them agriculture and farming, trades, governing, etc. The more educated they are the more we can prevent them from letting Taliban back in their lives. For the most part Afghanis are glad the Taliban are not in power and they want to keep it that way. But they are not smart enough to look into the future and see if we left tomorrow they would fall the day after.

Case in point. We pulled out of Korengal. Taliban moved in and took over. They overran COP Keating, so we pulled out of there too. We pulled further out of FOB Blessing not even two weeks ago. Yesterday 300 Talib came in and took control of the district. Wyagal is now under Talib rule again. They are gaining ground but the local populace does not want them there; they just cannot fight them. The ANP pulled out and abandoned the joint and let them roll in because they were afraid of casualties. This entire string of events is directly related to us cutting our losses in the Korengal valley. If we leave they will come back there is no doubt about it.

We cannot give up ground we have faught for. Killing civilians ON PURPOSE is giving up ground folks. No matter how you try and spin it.

There is a lot at stake here. There is not a single nation on the planet that would stand behind us much less beside us if we decimated this country with indiscriminant bombing. And rightfully so.

I still stand behind our troops but these guys went beyond my support. Sorry. The other 70,000 in country I will gladly give the shirt of my back or the mattress of my bunk if it made their job easier. That is proven fact. I have lived with these guys not as a tourist like some people. I have stayed up at night and sat in fighting positions with them and kept them company and awake. I have built bunkers for them out of scrape and my own two hands. I support everything they do but I will not support the murder of innocent civilians. Prove they killed terrorists and I will give you my cheese spread and crackers. Championing the troops for killing civilians and then condoning Al Qaeda for doing the same is summed up in one word; HYPOCRITE.

I know. And most libs don't remember how Clinton and their liberal politicians called for us to attack Iraq and then deny it. We could have fought this quickly and easily with an ICBM on each of the offending countries. No muss, no fuss, no worry about loss of American lives.

So, we should have laid down and taken it? After 3000 innocent American lives were taken for no reason? That doesn't even include the ones who have since died from complications caused by it.

Don't act as if these people only hate us because we invaded their country. They've hated America for a century plus. The entire region is unstable, not just Iraq. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, UAE, all of them. Bomb them all. Its a breeding ground for hatred against the US. It's not just an opinion. It's a way of life. Hatred alone is fine and well. Its when that hatred spurs actions such as 9/11 that I have a problem with.

These people can't get along with each other. What makes you think they can get along with anyone else?

I don't see how an indictment of death for 3000 Americans was justified in the face of the actions of a couple tens of thousands of radical extremists.

Only because our ignorant liberal media would show the world how mean the US is by not going in and making sure all was safe to level towns.

The people the civilians are protecting didn't give a damn about our women, children, bystanders, etc... why should we care about theirs?

I expect nothing, I want this war to be over with one way or another, tell everyone to leave and bomb the shit out of it, or just pack up and go home if they(gov) wont turn the troops loose and let them do what they were trained to do.

Some of them "seem" cool enough but I wouldn't trade all the Iraqi civilians for one of our troops' life. I put Americans before anyone, just my nature.
If that makes me fucked up in your book then so be it. Like bcoop is saying, if we are brutal enough to someone who attacks the U.S. of A. people are going to remember and think twice before making that mistake again.
