good luck anything that benefits a hard working american taxpayer probably wont pass. I know of people who get food stamps and all kinds of freebie shit who havent worked in years. The only work they do is going for their yearly benefits appointment and feeding them the same old bullshit story of why they cant get a job. There is work out there for those who want to work but as long as theres a handout some wont even try.

You are not getting the point. All of the above more than liekly have a job and are doing something productive.

We are talking about drug testing people who are taking, STEALING, money from you, me and everyone else who has half a brain, and a job. If I am forced to give up money that I worked hard for to people who are not doing anything, then I want to be sure as hell that they are at least not using ILLEGAL drugs.

I never once said anything about people milking the system, or of people doing drugs while on UE. I made my opinion clear that if we give the government this small step, it will set the precedence of other, bigger shit to come. As mentioned in my first post, I have no issue with businesses drug testing their employees.

As far as everyone jumping on the same bandwagon, I guess the general consensus is that every poor fucker on unemployment is a druggie that is only on it to get a free ride until the end. Every person on social security is faking, every insurance claim is a fraud...

The kid I mentor, he parents both lost their jobs. I was talking to the parents about collecting unemployment. He said, we haven't had a vacation forever, so we are going to collect for as long as possible.

Actually, the consensus is that sometimes you can't find a job, but if you're looking, you will. There is ZERO need for it to last 2 years and if you're on it for 2 years, you're milking the system.

right. We should do absolutely nothing while people milk UE and smoke pot while they should be looking for a job. If you get welfare or unemployment, you should be tested regularly and once a year, at random, have to submit a hair and blood test.

You can feel all warm and fuzzy if you want. Won't matter, people will have no problem circumventing anything put in place to the extent of a reasonable cost.
What you're talking about isn't even really reasonible . That would cost an unbelievable shit ton. Maybe you should do the math on how many people are on UE.
It's argueable it would do more harm than good, at least as aggressive as you just stated.
Like any one wants to foot that bill , just on the prospect that it might save some money by people dropping out of UE.

Don't people have to continually apply for jobs while on UE? How about if they can't get a job because they failed a drug test, they are permantly banned from receiving UE?

Then the cost would be put on the future employer ( who would pay for a drug test anyway).

The future employer would just have to forward the results onto the UE agency.

I'm not an advocate of drug use, but what happened to the whole premise of using drug tests to combat the danger of people being impaired at work and putting themselves and others in danger? At this point it seems like it is more of a punitive measure than about safety, which was the original reasoning.

I'm all for employers giving drug tests if they feel like it, but the government forcing someone to do it is a real slippery slope. What is next, the Fed taking your fingerprints and DNA just to check and see if you have done anything wrong lately? Searches of your property just to see if you have anything illegal?

Why punish them if they are doing nothing wrong? They should only have to pay for the test if they fail.

I am all for testing for unemployment AND welfare benefits but to play devils advocate a little here; a drug test is very simple to cheat. Hell I have employees that drink straight vinegar when I show up regarding drug cases cause they know it is time to pee in a cup. I caught a guy wearing a bladder of clean urine strapped to his leg with a tube and valve on it. When I search rooms of suspected users I always find bottles of NiAcin and detox shit.

On the same topic I can not wait until the Government Auditors find out we have employees working in an active war zone that have not pee'd in a cup in over a year or even at all since being employed. Opium, hash, cocaine, weed, heroin (pure shit too) is over here in cheap massive quantities

I'm with Stevo's thinking here. Government mandate on testing for social benefits is a slippery slope. For this reason i am completely against random, blanket testing. There should be probable cause established first, otherwise it is a blatant violation of privacy. I'm not advocating drug use, but what some one else puts in his/her body is not of my concern. Certain circumstances make this testing essential, but they are agreed upon prior to any exchange of employment or personal responsibility.

Testing would be pointless. Cutting unemployment benefits after one year would be a better cost effective solution all together.

Why focus on every individual, while the federal government squanders substanial amounts of money, with no accountability for any of it? (cough) bailout (cough). This just looks like the slide of hand trick, focus on small amounts here, while we truck your money out the back door.

Besides, if Bob is getting high off the money I've gladly paid into the system, atleast he's not stealing my fucking car or committing crimes to find this money! Lol!

Bottom line is, if you're going to stipulate anything with the collection of social benefits, be ready to stipulate conditions for EVERYTHING.
