This would only clear out the potheads and a very small group of dumbshits who use the harder drugs.

Speed, cocaine, and quite a few pills are out of your system within 3 days of the last use.

Good luck getting the Gov't to pay for the expensive setup that tests for LSD.

If my memory serves me correctly, cold medication shows up as barbituates in a UA.

Like Forrest said, it's a feel good measure. Unless the random is in the middle of the night while you're sleeping.

I know the difference and I really could care less. If you are sitting around smoking it up you are not looking for a job are you? I also hope this spreads to SS disabilty, and Welfare. I have seen plenty of people on UE that were not even trying to get a job.

You didn't answer, do you think it is a handout or welfare?

I think it is great idea. Just like being groped to fly, I have nothing to hide.

Unemployment refers to the inability for willing workers to find gainful employment. The degree of unemployment in a nation is one indicator of the economic health of the country. Many factors can negatively affect the unemployment rate including corporate downsizing, mergers, implementation of automation technologies, and job outsourcing to other nations. Some argue illegal immigration impacts the unemployment rate, though critics of this viewpoint counter that jobs held by illegals are generally low paying or undesirable.

In the United States, workers pay into unemployment insurance through a deduction or unemployment tax that comes out of every check. Benefits can then be paid to the unemployed person for a period of time to help with bills, food and other expenses. During this time an unemployment advisor meets with the candidate and supplies him or her with job leads. The candidate is also expected to make personal efforts to find work, such as checking the daily newspaper or looking at online employment hubs.

The fact that it keeps getting extended is ridiculous. If you can not find a job in the alloted time then you need to lower your standards. Sitting around doing drugs while on unemployment helps you in what way?

I think its a good idea, but I dont think its right to ask tax payers to pay for this.

I have been laid off before, and unemployment bridged the gap between employment... if I had taken a shitty job for no money, I wouldn't have had the time to find the next good job...

I don't have a problem with people getting money while unemployment, but I'm not against unemployment payment reform either!

I'll give you the answer you are looking for so you can debate it.

Unemployment is a handout. Just like everything else. We all pay into through taxes and only some people use it. They are getting money to sit on your ass. Most people these days do not try and become productive and collect money for nothing. 99 weeks and possibly more of free money for doing nothing... a handout. Drug test the hell out of unemployment recipients, medicaid recipients, WIC, everyone. If you are taking government money for doing NOTHING, you better not be spending it on drugs.

I really believe the abuse of the medicaid system is MUCH worse

Agreed unemployment is there to help, not a life style support. When I was laid off from Nokia in 2006, the $315/wk unemployment check bridged till I found a job, which I took a 35% pay cut on the job I found.

Having no debt payment at that time except for my house allowed unemployment to pay for 85% of my budget. A normal emergency fund of 6 months of expenses, could have lasted 40 months at that rate. Seeing how most people spend every penny they can borrow, most people would be in a crisis from unemployment. /Dave Ramsey rant

You are not getting the point. All of the above more than liekly have a job and are doing something productive.

We are talking about drug testing people who are taking, STEALING, money from you, me and everyone else who has half a brain, and a job. If I am forced to give up money that I worked hard for to people who are not doing anything, then I want to be sure as hell that they are at least not using ILLEGAL drugs.

Get that reasonable shit out of here...LOL That is a fine example of how it should work and I have zero issues with people that use it the right way. It is the people that just think its a free 99 week + ride that piss me off. Hey look at me I am unemplyeed so now I can hang out at the house and smoke all the weed I can buy. Also there are people that go out and get jobs and intentionally get fired from them just to collect UE. Shit I would like a two year government vaction, and I will drug test whenever they would like me too.
Like I said I knew this guy and his wife made a butload of money. He used up every bit of his UE before even trying to find a job. He lived in a 350k house, had three new cars, and ever gadget you could imagine. He would say why work I am getting paid to sit on my ass.

Also like has been stated before I hope this is the start of drug testing for every type of handout program.

My dad milked every day of UI. When they told him he had to submit reports of trying to find a job, he looked through the phone book for addresses. Eventually I got tired of it and reported him. Oddly enough, then he went and got hurt so now he's on doctor's leave. Some people milk the system. Hell yes I want him drug tested every month before he gets a dime.
