feel-good law... total waste of money...

people on probation pass drug tests all the time... people with jobs pass drug tests all the time...

all this will do is cause a slight increase in traffic at the head shops IMO

You're right, my bad. I was thinking along some different lines. Basically, it should be a reduction of the assistance they get.

I don't think everyone should be tested but they should do random tests. Testing everyone would be costly and most people would pass anyway so it would be wasted money.

i was going to say, "sounds like it's time to open a head shop"...but that sounds a little questionable...

I was saying the cost for testing for those collecting unemployment benefits should come out of their UE check. I.E. the first of the month they get a bottle and 300 instead of the weekly 350... or whatever $ it comes down too.

This will help kick half the people off unemployment. Its a great way for them to save money. But let me guess... the only people who voted against it were democraps.

Then why do we allow pre-employment drug screening?

I am all for this, and not just for unemployment claims, but for any sort of government assistance. Welfare, food stamps, grants, etc.

And UA is cheap these days, shoot you can buy them at the grocey store. I'd be willing to bet if this was implemented, we could potentially save much more than this would cost.

PS. really I am against any and all drug screening, unless criminal. But if we have them pre-employment then why not. If I have to pass to work for a living, someone should have to pass for a handout.

random is the ONLY way to make it work, and it still wouldn't work IMO

like I said... feel good law...

I agree with the concept, but it's just going to be a waste of taxpayer money so that the taxpayers who are already wasting money on the unemployed can feel better about it

Agreed, but that is completely detectable. If it's diluted, take another. Same thing as pre-employment, nearly all employers still use UA because it's cheap.

I'm not an advocate of drug use, but what happened to the whole premise of using drug tests to combat the danger of people being impaired at work and putting themselves and others in danger? At this point it seems like it is more of a punitive measure than about safety, which was the original reasoning.

I'm all for employers giving drug tests if they feel like it, but the government forcing someone to do it is a real slippery slope. What is next, the Fed taking your fingerprints and DNA just to check and see if you have done anything wrong lately? Searches of your property just to see if you have anything illegal?

If you're getting something from anyone, then there are stipulations. I don't see why the gub'ment has to be any different. Now if you're not getting free money, then hell feel free not to take a drug test.

Sounds like a great idea. The money it wold cost would be made up 10 fold with what it would save.
