The AP reports that French fighter pilot Jacques St. Michel became the first ace of the Libyan campaign when he blew up his fifth Libyan aircraft. Some coalition pilots are suggesting that the record will have to carry an asterisk since the planes were all on the ground in the scrap yard behind the latrine with most of the rest of the Libyan Air Force. St. Michel was elated with his victory saying, "The last one was the hardest. They were trying to cut away the aluminum skin to make bed pans. I had to get it before it disappeared completely." St. Michel was promoted to Squadron Commander and will receive the Croix de Guerre from President Sarkazy upon his return to Paris. When asked if he would preferred to have gotten his victories in aerial combat, St. Michel wiped his forehead with his regulation "surrender hankie" and muttered "merde, non" under his breath.

Gates stuck his foot in his mouth and said no boots on the ground under ANY circumstance (then how can we really check progress and get details?) and we would be doing this no longer than a week (that's tomorrow).
