Which I fall under, it's a little difficult to find side work in Iraq. All I'm saying is if I didn't want to get paid for a month and use my savings to pay bills, I'd just take the month off If I could.

Its not about what you "want", its about two forces not being able to find common ground and causing a government shutdown. I sympathize with you, I really do. Your stuck between a rock and hard place if this goes down like the media portrays it. Honestly I wouldnt worry about it, its not like they can just tell you to go home but at the same time it never hurts to kick some back into savings just in case.

What make a civilian deserve their check over a person that works for a paycheck through the government?

I'm just glad that there are enough people on the hill to realize this too. Our troops would be fucked and wronged with your philosophy.
I know you are correct that teachers are not paid federally but they are paid by a government.

It all boils down to the same thing I said earlier. This is just a scare tactic by the liberal media trying to scare everyone into believing that the Republicans are going to harm them by holding out for more cuts. Sad thing is, its working with most of the people here.

Next the liberals will try to scare the old people with some bullshit about social security checks.

I understand it's not what I want, to me it's the principle of the matter (if it actually true) that we are even on the chopping block so early in the game. To me it should be the two opposing forces that should suffer until they can reach an agreement. However we all know that won't happen.

I'm not worried about being able to take care of my self or my bills. I'm actually one of the guys that saves almost all of my paycheck for the entire time I've been here. Again it's just the fact that I'm doing my job earning my check, now do your job and give it to me. (gov not you) But some of my guys out here live paycheck to paycheck and would be up shit creek by recieving a check on a different day than the 1st or 15th.

I just got off the phone with Senator Cornyn. He said military and retirees and social security benefits will continue even if there is a shut down.

Just saw this story and it reminded me of this post. Republicans trying to pass bill that will ensure no military pay stoppage along with their supporting civilians.

I'm double dipping right now. Getting paid Militarily and Federally at the same time. Going furlough would suck but you would get paid back that money at some point.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

They were talking about us not getting paid in April, I got paid on the first like normal.
