It's the standard argument that I understand. The one that is fairly factual that criminals won't ever care about background checks, licenses, fees and so forth.

To get a CHL is a fairly costly thing overall. (at least in TX) I'd imagine any OC license would also cost a little.

However, I think the major advantage that CHL holders get for their training is an understanding of the LAW. The gun handling and such was boring for anyone who has ever shot.

The eye opener for me was the training about how the laws work, bill/no-bill stuff and so on. I mean, I never intended to shoot someone for just being on my outside property or breaking into a car. However, I thought I would defend other people as well - however after the CHL training, some crazy shit is gonna have to be happening before I pull the trigger for someone else's safety other then my family and I. I mean, there can't be any room for me to be thrown under the bus.

well obviously check for felony convictions, because that would mean that said individual would have forfeited some of their constitutional rights. other then that I really dont care who can exercise their constitutional right to carry a gun.
in texas there are so many restrictions when it comes to determining who can carry and who cant carry that it defeats the purpose for so many people that just want to protect themselves.

I do not think that people should be able to carry "any weapon they choose". I think the law forbidding people from acquiring thermonuclear warheads is reasonable.

I also think open carry is stupid and paints you as a target. It is also one of the biggest threats to our gun rights. It boils my blood when you see some lowlife moron open carrying, wearing a "Co-ed Naked Bass Fishing Team" T-shirt in a small midwestern town, where the chances of being mugged are roughly the same of being attacked by an elephant. The carrying of firearms in suburban Starbucks is on the same level as going into the same Starbucks and shouting racism/obscenities at the top of your lungs in an attempt to retain your 1st Amendment rights.

You say that, and a few months ago a friend of mine was in a Starbucks and watched a real shady character at the front door try to put on a mask unsuccessfully three times before sprinting away.

My friend was cussing at himself 'cause he was going to the gym and left his CCW bag in the car because he was just going "in and out".

And you would still have it if you were carrying concealed? My entire life, when off duty, I have only seen one instance where a chl holder could have done anything. And having it on his hip in plain view wouldnt have helped.

Right, because concealed carry would be useless against such a burglar.

                      So, you're against CCW, too?

I'm not arguing pro-OC, just the open ended argument of Starbucks being low risk.

TBH, I wouldn't OC if such a law were passed.

Could have just gone to training for the day (which you wear plain clothes usually and your badge and gun). You can't compare a police officer to a chl holder. That is night and day when you look at training. It seems to me like you want to be a police officer without actually being one? Conceal carry gives you just as many "options" as having it on your hip. You say why are police able to carry theirs on their hip and you are not. My answer is simple, because a police officer needs to be able to get their weapon as fast as possible and pull their weapon often. I take it you are a chl holder? How many times have you had to get your gun out ever? I am sure that answer is a big goose egg or we would have seen it on the news. Honestly I don't care about this bill. Just stating the obvious here. All it will is be used for all the wrong reasons. Ask any police officer with a good head on their sholders if they would rather carry their gun concealed or unconcealed when off duty.
Unless the cop in question was military, I'd compare my training with theirs anyday. And I'm willing to bet I've had to actually use a firearm against people a HELL of a lot more often. So, rights for cops but not others?

No, I am for conceal carry. I think every law abiding person should carry.

I have a CHL but seldom carry, mainly because I am a tall thin man and any, and I mean any gun prints a bit. I am paranoid of getting arrested and having my ability to own a firearm suspended for printing.

Also I can not carry where I feel most vulnerable... on campus.

Oh jeez, going to throw military junk in this conversation. I am former military also. And trust me, I have gotten more gun retention training and gun safety in one year then I ever did in the military. No one is saying rights for cops and not anyone else. Police carry their weapon on their hip for a reason. A citizen has no reason carrying on their hip. I don't know nor care what you did in the military. I was 19D which is a combat oriented mos before you throw in there me being supply or something of that nature.
