Why would the girl scouts give a damn about what goes on inside a bar?

LMAO @ the people crying about being around second hand smoke and the health effects, while going to a bar and destroying their liver.

Because the coalition he listed didn't specify bars at all. Their deal is for smoke-free indoor work environments.

To those complaining about the ban, something on which we agree:

Would you be opposed to your employer making you pay more for your health care premiums if you smoke?

Ah this makes sense. We don't need those little slave girls baking cookies all day having to deal with smoke in the work place!

I don't care. I already support people who don't want to get a job, keep popping out kids, anchor babies, people in prison, etc... might as well add some more things to the tab.

They hold no water at all. It's all about their sampling. Did they do this polling at Denny's at 3:30 pm? You never know....
Sure, small sample polls are not always a great indicator of the total publics opinion.

Another "Poll" shows that roughly 23% of all men and 18% of all women smoke.

Would you say that those #'s are roughly accurate or do you think they are completely off base with how many people actually smoke?

If you are willing to concede that less than 30% of people in the country smoke, I don't think it's a stretch that to assume the other 70% that don't smoke might prefer not to have to deal with second hand smoke.

                    From their home page: http://smokefreetexas.org/

"We support a statewide smoke-free indoor workplace law to protect Texans from the dangers of secondhand smoke exposure in workplaces including bars and restaurants. All employees should be protected from exposure to secondhand smoke in the workplace."

Not specifying bars doesn't mean it doesn't include them.

                        Not at all.

I'm not convinced those numbers are accurate. Or even anything close to accurate. What about all the people that "only smoke when they drink"? And any evening in a bar that allows smoking will show just how far off they are.

That's a whole other issue completely. Smokes are already $6.50/pack. As high as $10 in NY. All because of taxes. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the sin tax, if the Govt was frugal and spent the money wisely. But then, again, that's a whole other issue.

If they really want to crucify all the smokers (and they do), just fucking outlaw tobacco. But they can't do that, far too much tax revenue coming in from the tobacco companies and the smokers.

                              • Smoking is already banned in dallas and a few other cities in texas, and at the time they banned it a lot of people were saying that this would be a death sentence to dallas bars and restaurants, but looking back on the last couple years I think it has actually improved it. everyone was worried at the time that places like addison would steel business away from dallas, but in the end I think dallas actually stole some of the non-smoker business away from places like addison. I use to go up to addison all the time, but it has been on a decline the last couple years.
