If I hire someone to do my yard, how am I supposed to know if they are illegal or not? Well, I could ask them for a social security card or DL. If they produced one, how would I know if it was legit? There is no way for the average person to verify this stuff. That is the point of having that in the law.

I mow my own lawn. But the law needs to be universal with no loop holes, except maybe the punishment should be a little less harsh for homeowners like maybe a $500 dollar fine with no jail time as a hindering to keep people from just arbitrarily hiring people without any background. If they use a company that has an illegal, then go after the company.

just as al said, a homeowner isn't going to know if the guy mowing his lawn is an illegal alien...they just didn't want homeowners to have to be responsible for requesting paperwork on their yard guy, etc. most people wouldn't even know how to verify if a person is legal, especially if they're given a dl/ss card, which could easily be fake.

When was the last time you were in any type of government office like welfare,child support, IRS etc...? There is a reason why they have a Spanish speaking option. There are a FEW, and I stress FEW, illegals that work and try to make a better life for themselves. The vast majority of them are a leach on this country and society in general.
The ones that come over here ILLEGALLY start off by breaking the law. Their are ways to do it legally but it isn't easy so they just swim in the river or jump the fence. They also are the bottom feeders of society in Mexico. You don't see doctors, lawyers, or teachers coming over here illegally.
