  • Ronald Reagan: Worst president ever?

In a thread a long time ago, there were people who were praising Reagan as one of their favorite or even being one of the best ever. Explain to me after watching this why he is the best president.

Ronald Reagan is only propped up by a misinformation campaign of the super rich who benefited from his policies that hurt those at the lower end of the econo...

I don't think he was the "best".... I think he was a great one....

The dude faced a real, large, determined adversary in the Soviet Union and won.

Please refer to the "Carter Years" for more info....

              This.
As for his economic polocies, he let the government and the fed inflate us out of Carter's economic problems. At the time, it seemed like a great idea, but fiat currency is going to be our downfall. If he was a true economic conservative, he would've returned us to a gold standard.
ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

I dont know if everything that man said is true, but here are some things that I DO know to be true-

Reagan traded arms, money, drugs and hostages between Iran and the Nicaraguan rebels.

Reagan gave chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein.

Reagan claimed “Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do”.

More appointed officials were indicted and convicted of crimes under Reagan than than any other president.

Reagan banned the production of new machine guns for civilians.

                    1. He got caught.... He obviously believed in what he was doing. I don't support in how he went about it...

                    2. He gave arms to Saddam to counterbalance Iran and the Soviets

                    3. He was wrong...

                    4. Officials get indicted all the time

                    5. The 1986 Volkmer/McClure Firearms Owners' Protection Act was written to eliminate the worst parts of the 1968 Gun Control Act, but the goddam antis tacked on the machinegun ban as a rider at the last minute. Reagan was under a lot of pressure to sign the bill and he had to accept or reject the whole thing as it was presented to him. If he had line-item veto power, he could have accepted the main bill (good) and scrapped the rider (bad).

Weren't the Soviets already on a decline and it would have happened anyway?

Let's not forget the "War on Drugs".

Dead Reagan is better than the turd we have now.

Between economists and historians you will always have disagreements on supply side economics. It works amazingly well in the immediate but hard to say in the long run. With the abundance of economic growth people become more charitable. Generally speaking, with their own money. In this country, our congress gets exceedingly generous with OPM.

Reagan also didn't sit back and look like a bitch. Obama just looks lost.

No. By beefing up our military, the Soviets then tried to match ours, but they couldn't afford it. Reagan knew we could sustain the debt incurred (at that time) by ramping up our military. He won the Cold War by forcing the other side to try to beat us on the economic front.

I am more than familiar with the circumstances surrounding the 1986 FOPA. That being said, it is impossible to criticize Reagan without all of the yellow dog repubs coming out of the woodwork and drawing a line in the sand.

I think he was a good president, but I do not agree with some of the things he did, and as such am not afraid to point out his flaws and misdeeds. He is not the best president we have ever had (Andrew Jackson or Washington IMO), but he is far from the worst.
