I don't know about the legalizing drugs part. Its just too damn hard to keep our young out of them until they are old enough to know better. Or at the very least use it responsibly and not become an addict. (not a drug user) If it were not for that, I wouldn't care cause if you're that dumb you deserve what you get anyway. But kids are inherently stupid, they can't help it.

Heard him on the Mark Davis show yesterday morning. Has a couple of his old man's quirk's that I happen to not like. He was VERY evasive about answering questions about our military and stated he was against any aid to Israel. Other than that, I really like the guy.

Overall I like what he has to say. My problem with him is the same as my problem with Libertarians in general. They have great ideals but their proposed solutions are often too dogmatic and flat out silly.

I like him, though. I like his dad as well. Overall the good far outweighs the bad.

I like his stance of spending cuts. The only hang up I have is taking away all support for Israel.

Israel has 6 million Jews. They have 150 million muslims (that all want them dead) just to the east of them, and an ocean to the west. Hmmm...sound fair to you? This should at least get the ball rolling...

I hold a lot of libertarian views, but the real libertarians seem... to live in a fantasy world of their own. They want all these government agencies shut down, which of course would be damn nice. But then who will manage that stuff? Do they really believe that businesses are nice enough not to kill us all (and laugh as they do it) with the stuff that they sell to us? I want them to have something to lose by selling a toy that puts kids eyes out or a piece of chocolate that rips out my intestines. Or maybe a garment that gives my wife skin cancer.

Libertarians talk a big game about how great it would all be if it was just all gone, but I am not so sure.

Without getting into the "God's children" nonsense, Israel was established and legitimized through the UN in '47/'48. For us, it's also a really good friend in a really bad place. If the shit really hits the fan in the middle east, I would consider Israel a big military base.

Yup. Permanent beachhead left after World War II when the Allies didn't have the will to finish the job after Italy, Germany, and Japan had fallen.

There is another one by our other piece of unfinished business (China) in that era.... It's called South Korea.

No, without our tax dollars they'd conquer their neighbors and take control of the Suez Canal and a whole bunch of oil wells.

Libertarians as a whole know that most of their ideas won't work but if you press for an extreme idea and settle slightly less extreme you do a whole lot better than pressing for a moderate idea and settling slightly in the other direction. That's been the problem with conservatives since the Clinton era, they've tried to work towards a common ground with democrats. The only problem is that the democrats have been way more left than the conservatives were right, meaning the government swayed to the left.
