But this would have to go on pretty much indefinitely or they would climb again. When the government pays, the government controls.

To be honest, I doubt we will see the level of civil unrest in Saudi Arabia like all these other middle eastern countries. Just another opinion though.

Well we all know what happened last time gas got up to over $3.00 a gallong..people stopped paying their home loans and all hell broke loose. At that time my monthly gas bill was equal to my base house payment..(lived in Sherman..drove to Dallas)..no work from home option for me.
Similiar set of events will occur. The price of gas will continue to rise until the economy crashes. Some people blame inflation, some people blame speculation, some people will blame aliens (illigals of course *grin*), some people still going to blame Bush and the Republicans. It doesn't matter who you blame..no one is going to own it, and anyone that does isn't going to do shit about it.

The Saudi rulers have traditionally taken a lot better care of their citizens through their oil wealth than most other Middle Eastern countries, so the populace may be more forgiving of their rulers living like kings (pun intended).

It's times like these I thank God and my parents for blessing me with a $600 1996 Cavalier that (when I properly maintain it) gets 36 mpg. I need to change my spark plugs, its been over 100k since I changed them...it has 242,000 on it right now...
The Escape, Scion and Stang stay cozy at home.
