Have you also been saying for months that Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Bahrain were going to fall into civil unrest?

I remember bush trying to get everyone to stop buying gas for just one day. He said it would lower it by like 15 cents for every day that most people didn't buy gas. I bet he's right, if most of the nation just staved off buying gas for as long as they possibly could, and carpooled and used public transportation, and made absolutely no unnecessary trips, then it would fall some. But this would have to go on pretty much indefinitely or they would climb again.

Actually, no one was saying it in the mainstream media when I first mentioned my opinion on it, so if you are trying to say I got it from the media think again.

Nope, I have been saying it would go to $4+ before end of summer based on the trend of market speculation only.

To be honest, I doubt we will see the level of civil unrest in Saudi Arabia like all these other middle eastern countries. Just another opinion though.

Well we all know what happened last time gas got up to over $3.00 a gallong..people stopped paying their home loans and all hell broke loose. At that time my monthly gas bill was equal to my base house payment..(lived in Sherman..drove to Dallas)..no work from home option for me.

Similiar set of events will occur. The price of gas will continue to rise until the economy crashes. Some people blame inflation, some people blame speculation, some people will blame aliens (illigals of course *grin*), some people still going to blame Bush and the Republicans. It doesn't matter who you blame..no one is going to own it, and anyone that does isn't going to do shit about it.

I'd imagine that $5/gal fuel this time around, in this political climate would be far different. No one had anything to base it off of. This time we do.

True, and throw in a domestic refinery shutdown or two, and it was a virtual certainty even without the current Middle Eastern turmoil.

The Saudi rulers have traditionally taken a lot better care of their citizens through their oil wealth than most other Middle Eastern countries, so the populace may be more forgiving of their rulers living like kings (pun intended).

You beat me to this. I believe gas is what actually crippled the economy last time it hit 5 dollars. I ride my HD to work any time its not raining or snowing so it did not affect me a whole lot but I got to listen to many of the people I work with that it was killing. Not to mention everything else went up like crazy like groceries and hell everything else. My wife drives to UTA everyday so it affects her a bit but I bought her a Versa the right before this happened last time and it saved a bunch of money.

Can't wait for my next grocery bill.

And I agree, the increase in gas will stifle any recovery in the economy we might be making.

                            I'd take $3.09 for premium. It's almost $4/gallon here.

It's times like these I thank God and my parents for blessing me with a $600 1996 Cavalier that (when I properly maintain it) gets 36 mpg. I need to change my spark plugs, its been over 100k since I changed them...it has 242,000 on it right now...

I think this is the inflation some people were wanting to stimulate the economy. I feel stimulated.
