“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods". Aldous Huxley 1962

      ....

That's what I was thinking. They wanted to see how easy it would be to make a broad stroke across the Internet. If it was that easy to do it "on accident", image how much they could do on purpose.

Just imagine if you were one of those companies branded a "child porn distributor". That's a pretty fucked up thing. I'm sure there will be a few companies trying to sue these clowns for some compensation.

Gov't spying on your internet searches, site visits, posts, emails, and listening to your phone calls all without warrants or oversight. Cameras going up for redlights and speeding for "safety" yet they get idled when they are no longer profitable. Police agencies testing video-drones, but arresting citizens who film their actions. Obama is acquiring the ability to cut off all ability to access the internet at the press of a button. He also wants a unique internet ID issued to each and every person in order to access the internet. Labeling dissenters as domestic terrorists and suspending habeas corpus.

Is this the twilight of a golden era?

Therein lies his mistake. They only way that the government gets away with anything that it does, is because the people are apathetic. But when you go trying to tell them that they can no longer be fat, lazy, and stupid, you'll see a massive uprising. Try to take away their myspace and facebook and you'll be in for a world of hurt. Just look at how bent out of shape people get when you try to take away their entitlements. Its not necessarily the money itself per se, but the lifestyle change that it brings to them. They don't want to change their lifestyle. No internet would be a giant lifestyle change for most people, and there would likely be hell to pay.
