Bush Sr. does indeed have the right to vote for whomever he chooses. Same as anyone else legally allowed to do so.

Bush Sr always gets a pass in my book. Guy was born into privilege but chose to delay going to Yale to enlist in the Navy after Pearl Harbor. Saw real action and flew bombing runs. He took heavy fire one time that took out an engine, still finished his mission, and took his plane out to sea before ditching it. Survived a few days out there before being rescued. He could campaign for Bernie and I would still admire the guy.

Miitary service record and political record are seperate. You can have someone with an impressive or admirable military career who sucks as a politician. Plenty in our history who served honorably but screwed us when it came to an office. McCain and Teddy Roosevelt immediately come to mind.
