    LOL!
"Duterte tells Obama not to question him about killings"
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/duterte-t...101149877.html

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte warned President Barack Obama on Monday not to question him about extrajudicial killings, or "son of a bitch I will swear at you" when they meet in Laos during a regional summit.

Duterte said before flying to Laos that he is a leader of a sovereign country and is answerable only to the Filipino people. He was answering a reporter's question about how he intends to explain the extrajudicial killings to Obama. More than 2,000 suspected drug pushers and users have been killed since Duterte launched a war on drugs after taking office on June 30.

In his typical foul-mouthed style, Duterte responded: "I am a president of a sovereign state and we have long ceased to be a colony. I do not have any master except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody. You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions. Putang ina I will swear at you in that forum," he said, using the Tagalog phrase for son of a bitch.

Duterte has earlier cursed the pope and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

It isn't clear whether Obama planned to raise the issue of extrajudicial killings with Duterte during a scheduled meeting on the sidelines of the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Asked at a news conference in Hangzhou, China, whether he still intends to meet with Duterte and raise the issue of extrajudicial killings, Obama said he had instructed his aides to assess whether it is still possible for the two leaders to have a constructive meeting in Laos.

"I always want to make sure that if I'm having a meeting that it's actually productive, and that we're getting something done," Obama said.

"We recognize the significant burden that the drug trade plays not just in the Philippines but around the world, and fighting narco-trafficking is tough. But we will always assert the need to have due process and to engage in that fight against drugs in a way that's consistent with basic international norms. And so, undoubtedly, if and when we have a meeting this is something that is going to be brought up," said Obama, who has been attending a meeting of the Group of 20 nations.

"Who is he to confront me?" Duterte said in his remarks, adding that the Philippines had not received an apology from the United States for misdeeds committed during its colonization of the Philippines.

He pointed to the killing of Muslim Moros more than a century ago during a U.S. pacification campaign in the southern Philippines, blaming the wounds of the past as "the reason why (the south) continues to boil" with separatist insurgencies.

Last week, Duterte said he was ready to defend his bloody crackdown on illegal drugs, which has sparked concern from the U.S. and other countries.

Duterte said he would demand that Obama allow him to first explain the context of his crackdown before engaging the U.S. president in a discussion of the deaths.

He really does take the adage of "no man, no problem" to heart when it comes to the cartels and crooked cops.

He isn't after just cartels and crooked cops, he is telling people to kill anyone who is selling drugs, using drugs, or are suspected of such. Last I checked something around an estimated 2,000 people have been killed so far. He said (not a direct quote) that drug addicts can't be helped and death helping them. My wife is from the Philippines so I have been following the story a bit. There is no due process in his so anyone could murder their neighbor and say I sae him with pot. Not surprising though. People in the Philippines seem to not have much regard for law; assassinations happen on a regular basis and they keep viting for very socialist policies such as land confiscation from owners and giving it to the poor. Anyways, fuck that guy.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

I think it's a pretty interesting approach to a problem. I've been following it to see how it works.

                Wild west style.

I'm torn between his methods, and trials followed immediately by public hanging, if convicted.

I still feel really strongly, that we need to get back to the public hanging.

Aaaaand as expected, Obama pusses out. What a fucking embarrassment he is.

"Clearly, he's a colorful guy," Obama said. "What I've instructed my team to do is talk to their Philippine counterparts to find out is this in fact a time where we can have some constructive, productive conversations."

Early Tuesday, National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said the meeting with Duterte was off.
"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

I understand your viewpoint. I am also under no illusions about what Duterte is. Lord Acton summed it up perfectly when he said "Great men, are almost always Bad men."

He is removing a cancer that is endemic in society, and sadly that is rarely done without also removing healthy tissue surrounding it.

As harsh and sad as it sounds, the fact that removing the addicts also removes the demand for the drug supply. Removing the dealers, suppliers, and supply alone without addressing the demand would simply guarantee that there will be others to fill those vacuums.

I hate drug addicts more than i hate drug dealers for some reason, not sure why. Either way this is a interesting approach to a problem so lets play it out and see what happens, what is there to loose?

I read on this site routinely from many members some variation of "prohibition did not work with alcohol, and it won't work with other drugs (or things)". Somone decides to kill all drug dealers, drug users, and anyone remotely suspected of such, and the response is "lets see how it works". Prohibition is bad, but straight up murder is ok?

No it's not okay. You know what else it isn't? Our problem.

We aren't the world police, and frankly our "war on drugs" is a dismal fucking failure.

The Philippines took our bullshit, massively expensive "war" -that our populace did not support, and turned it into an actual one with public support and help. And for all our moral hand wringing and pearl clutching, they've done more in a few months than we've done in 30 years.

Duterte is in the process of taking our Gordian Knot and cleaving it in two. Frankly, I'm looking over there to see how he pulls it off and what lessons we can learn from it.

Mexico and their fed up populace putting this shit into practice coupled with our Trump Wall would go a long way toward unraveling our knot.

I didn't say it was out problem and I don't think the U.S. should really do anything. I do think Obama should have refused to meet with him, but because of a moral protest against the murders and not because he was insulted and his feelings hurt. But then U.S. presidents have a history or sitting down with murderers, or being one, so I suppose it would have just been more of the same.

Dont be a baby.. Will innocent people die... probably. He's trying to rid the country of generations of corruption and drug problems. Its not easy. There are other reports of 700,000 people that have turned themselves in for drug dealing. 2,000 people died and he got 700,000 people off the street. Its working. Not only that, he has a 91% approval rating by the Philippine people. When have we had a presidential approval rating of that? What he's doen in 3 months probably surpasses what the US has done in the last decade.
