  • Sanders leaving the Democrats

The nomination was barely sealed up at the Democratic National Convention before Bernie Sanders, who had campaigned against Hillary Clinton for the party’s nod, went back to being an Independent.
Sanders, who considers himself, officially, an Independent in Congress because his views lean further left than the Democratic party’s platform, caucuses with Democrats. But until declaring an intention to run for the presidency in 2015, he had rarely, if ever, identified as a member of the Democratic Party (he’s been in politics since 1979).
And now, despite pleading with his base to support Hillary, even though they’re concerned that she’s too moderate, Sanders will return to Vermont and to his seat in the Senate, and he’ll do it with no official party affiliation.
Bernie Sanders tells @bpolitics breakfast w/reporters he'll return to the Senate as an Independent, not a Dem: 'I was elected as an Ind.'

Again? Wasn't he an independent, than became a Democrat in order to run?

Somebody help me out here. Can he run now as a independent? Just curious. That folks would cause Hillary to lose for sure. Was it Ross that screwed up the republican election one time?
        Whos your Daddy?

Yes and yes. He won't though. There is a green party candidate Jill Stein she may have an impact like Ross did, but for the dems. A lot of Bernie supporters are going her way. Watch for her to rise big in the polls. Assuming she doesn't meet with the clinton machine unfortunate circumstances..

You won't sniff this story anywhere on CNN. You have to turn to rightwingnews.com outlets for it. The most solid source I could find is the WSJ.

And of course snopes has to put their spin on it to downplay the significance of a Democrat presidential nominee changing his party affiliation on the day he loses the candidacy.

The Vermont senator will return to his roots as an Independent, but not as a protest over leaked information.

"So while it's true Sanders was returning to his Senate seat as an Independent, it is not true that he "left the party" to protest any leaked information."

Of course neither of them will make any mention of him doing anything other than returning to the Senate with his tail between his legs. If he does/is going for President as an Independent, that will virtually ensure a loss for Cruella.

Hillary probably told him "Get out now before the sun sets."

Evidently he asked for the DNC to pay for him a private jet for his reelection campaign and him to have some speaking jobs this fall.

Not to split hairs too much but there is a pretty big difference between Hillary and Bernie's brands of socialism.

Hillary's brand is hardly any further left than our current socialistic economic system. Yes, we CURRENTLY have a socialist system and we've had it since the 1940's. The entire military industrial complex (as Eisenhower put it) is a socialist makeup. Then of course there is all the welfare programs for people and corporations. IMO Hillary wants more of this status quo.

Bernie wasn't something more akin to the French version of socialism where the government owns at least a share of many corporations (though not all) and the social net is much wider.

After losing to Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders is back to his day job as a US Senator for Vermont.

Sanders campaigned against the 1%, promising to bring America closer to his Democratic Socialist ideal and to take corporations and rich people down a peg or two.

But now that his campaign is over, he’s picking up a sweet new pad.

According to Seven Days, a news publication in Vermont, the Democratic Socialist from Vermont shelled out 600 grand for a lake house.

The Burlington resident last week plopped down nearly $600,000 on a camp in North Hero.

Sanders’ new waterfront crib has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront on the east side of the island — facing Vermont, not New York. The Bern will keep his home in Burlington and use the new camp seasonally.

“We’ve traveled up to the islands many times over the years — almost always on day trips,” Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, told Seven Days in a written statement. “We’ve been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby.”
Twitter was swift to respond to the irony:

Congrats to Senator Sanders. The lake house looks lovely, especially as a third home.
