  • Should people on a terror/ no fly list be prevented from buying guns?

    Just like the title says. If you are on a watch list should you be excluded from purchasing a firearm?

        When you see the govt more interested in your 80 something white grandma than jihadi John behind her in line at the airport, you know they have their priorities fucked up.

        When the .gov has their shit fucked up, the LAST thing you do is give them say-so on shit like your constitutional rights.

        A lot of shit sounds good when premised on a benevolent govt overseeing it. The problems come when You realize there has never been one. Not in the entire history of the planet. Not. Ever.

        But I'm sure this time is different.

            Only if due process is followed when placing somebody on the list. Otherwise a shitbag like Hillary could say anybody who wants to buy a 'assault rifle' is a threat and must be put on the list.

              Why do you think they kept using "homegrown terrorism" when discussing the Orlando shooting?

              Nevermind the fact that we really don't have a murder by gun problem.

              Nevermind the fact that criminals have absolutely zero concern for laws. I mean, murder is already illegal.

              Chicago is about to add more gun laws to try and lower their murder rate because 13 people got shot and killed last weekend. That place is the poster child for why more gun laws don't work, yet they keep trying.

                  That's why we have the NICS system which will see if you're indicted or convicted of a felony, had substance abuse problems, received a dishonorable discharge, had a restraining order against you, etc, etc.
                  Being on a no-fly list is bullshit, simply for the asinine things that can land you there to begin with.

                  Something as simple as a mis-checked box on a form could keep me from buying a gun? Fuck that, and fuck you.


                  Former Princeton University professor Walter Murphy told The Guardian that in 2007, he was denied a boarding pass in Newark International Airport. He suspects it was because of a high-profile lecture he gave that had been critical of then-President Bush.
                  This is a common complaint from those who claim they are on the no-fly list unjustly. “If you have a name which is similar in sound or spelling or in phonetical interpretation to someone who probably legitimately should be on the list, you’re at risk for finding yourself on the list,” says Mann. He cites a friend of his who shares a last name with an Irish Republican Army operative who was active in the 1960s and 1970s. That unfortunate coincidence, says Mann, landed not only his friend on the list but also the man’s son — who wasn’t even born during this operative’s heyday.
                  In 2007, “60 Minutes” famously brought together a group of people named Robert Johnson who experienced problems flying, likely because a man also named Robert Johnson had been convicted of plotting to bomb a Hindu temple and a movie theatre in Toronto.
                  According to a federal lawsuit heard in New York this summer, four Muslims say they were put on the no-fly because they refused to spy for the FBI. The men’s names were removed from the list but they sued FBI agents for damages.
                  According to a lawsuit detailed in Wired magazine, a Stanford University doctoral student was placed on the no-fly list in 2004. After seven years of federal lawsuits, it was determined she was unjustly put on the list because an FBI agent had checked the wrong box on a form.
                  “In some cases, people have either open warrants or some other characteristic indicating criminal activity and then they find themselves on this list,” he says, even when the alleged activity has nothing to do with aviation security. Mann believes that’s a sign the no-fly list has morphed beyond an air security tool into an all-out law enforcement tactic. “This has mission-creeped into something that is much wider in scope than was originally intended,”

                        Exact-a-mon-doo. This guy gets it. If the government wants to place me on some sort of list that restricts my freedoms, pull me in front of a judge and lay out a case why.
                        There are close to 2,000,000 people currently on the no fly list.

                        According to a civil lawsuit made public last week, the U.S. government has added more than 1.5 million names — not individuals — to its Terrorist Watchlist in the last five years. This has sparked concern among many human rights organizations and advocacy groups, who say that the government has become too aggressive in its efforts to keep the American public safe.

                        “The amount of names added to the list is really startling,” said Gadeir Abbas, a staff attorney with the Council on American-Islamic Relations who has represented “dozens” of Americans on the no-fly list.

                        Abbas told MintPress News that the number of names on the watch list is counterproductive to the goals of the watch list, as law enforcement are now more concerned with adding names to the watch list or checking to see if someone is in the database, than engaging in “traditional criminal investigations that uncover wrongdoing.”


                        Experts argue that by including so many names on the Terrorist Watchlist, it’s actually more difficult for law enforcement to investigate or apprehend real criminals.

                          Girl I went to high school with was posting on her facebook page the other day about how all AR style rifles should be banned because of all the deaths and nobody needed them. Yet she is pro abortion, smokes, drinks, smokes weed and is a huge Sanders supporter.
