  • VA secretary: Disney doesn't measure wait times, so why should VA?

Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald on Monday compared the length of time veterans wait to receive health care at the VA to the length of time people wait for rides at Disneyland, and said his agency shouldn't use wait times as a measure of success because Disney doesn't either.

"When you got to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line? Or what's important? What's important is, what's your satisfaction with the experience?" McDonald said Monday during a Christian Science Monitor breakfast with reporters. "And what I would like to move to, eventually, is that kind of measure."

McDonald's comments angered House Speaker Paul Ryan, who tweeted out Monday afternoon, "This is not make-believe, Mr. Secretary. Veterans have died waiting in those lines."

At a time when racial reckoning and correcting inequity are paramount concerns, education policy is understood to be both a root cause and a potential solution. Yet, the current election-year political discourse lacks the vital connection of chartering public schools as a proven pathway to success for students of color from impoverished backgrounds. This is understood

The VA certainly isn't an amusement park.

But it IS a 3-ring circus.

With all the damn money this government wastes. Give the Vets a card and allow them to go to the doctor of their choice and Uncle Sam picks up the tab. I have heard nothing but long waits and poor treatment for our soldiers. This has got to be a cheaper and better solution to the bureaucratic mess they have created.
Don't spend another effing dime on jack shit until these men and women have proper medical care.
I hope Trump makes this job 1.

A lot of folks believe this about Vets just getting private care and doctors or the Vets being reimbursed. Won't see it happen and if it did happen, the gov would probably take 3 years to reimburse.

Not all VA facilities are horrible, but I'm guessing about 85% are...

I'm not talking about a re-imbursement system. I say we give them a medical card and they go to the doc they want to see and uncle same pays the bill through that card. No out of pocket for the vet. Gotta be cheaper than this mess they have now.

So like food stamps, but with medical?

Yeah, that'll never fly. Not with the gov't we have now.

Either way, I'm sure the gov will screw it up and make vets undesirable patients.

The VA does have a program in place where vets can see a civilian doctor for a service-connected issue if the wait to see the VA is too long. You just have to get approval from the VA, or they may deny payment. If you don't have one of these cards, talk to the VA.

Disney does measure wait times, they put it on a god damn sign outside the ride so you can determine if you want to wait. This guy is a fucking idiot.
