I don't think this case is anything really close to the real idea of designer babies. They are basically just identifying embryos that are either XX or XY chromosome already, not altering them.

The alteration of genomes is way to dangerous to attempt on human beings anytime in the near future. We simply don't understand our genomes well enough. There are too many genes that have effects on multiple systems in the body or systems in the body that are affected by multiple genes.
