No. You can legally not use those and still drive somewhere. You can't legally drive without the inspection.Originally posted by matts5.0 View PostGet rid of fucking toll roads and express lanes first!I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

you've got your head in the sand...Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View PostI like the inspections it helps reinforce insurance and it helps keep a lot of the POS cars off the streets without putting all the burden of enforcement on the LEOs
without it imagine the amount of crap vehicles the illegals would be driving
a one month insurance card at a $50 bill once a year means a large amount of crap being driven every day
inspections don't keep non-passing or uninsured vehicles off of the road

All this construction by my house on 35 and 820, so they can add express lanes that are 6 bucks a pop , is a way bigger burden than getting an inspection ever has been.Originally posted by LANTIRN View PostNo. You can legally not use those and still drive somewhere. oh I know there are people that cheat, especially with insurance. But I still think it serves a purposeOriginally posted by Cooter View Postyou've got your head in the sand...

Werent one month insurances done away with with current legislation? didnt that legislation also create a database of people who failed to pay insurance?
Where are all the crap cars then? Ever notice almost all that the shitty cars from about 75 to 95 arent on the road any more?

They are driving them. I see them all the time, and in no greater numbers than I saw in NM where there are no inspections.Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View PostI like the inspections it helps reinforce insurance and it helps keep a lot of the POS cars off the streets without putting all the burden of enforcement on the LEOs

There really is no data that supports the idea that the inspections make the roads safer. At least none that I am aware of. I think the biggest reasons for that are federal regulations and the threat of lawsuits against the auto makers. These inspections were important in the 1970s when cars were a pile of shit after 100K miles.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

So how many probes, lazers, eagles, etc do you see? My last job required me to be all over the metro in the low income neighborhoods and most of those cars dont exist. The one exception to that observation is work trucks and SUVs. I lived in NM in the late 80s and there was a lot of junk on the road especially when the Indians were in town. but now that Res' have gambling money the trickle down payments might be taking care of thatOriginally posted by LANTIRN View PostThey are driving them. It had limited funds so the chance of all those cars disappearing just doesnt add up.Originally posted by Cooter View PostEver remember cash for clunkers?
Having no data works both ways since it means there is no quantifiable information that it is or is not working.Originally posted by Broncojohnny View PostThere really is no data that supports the idea that the inspections make the roads safer.

There were a ton of vehicles scrapped during cash for clunkers. A lot more were also scrapped when steel prices were sky high.
Also, most vehicles are throw away anyhow. Parts and diag on those nineties econo shit boxes ate more than the vehicles are worth.
You still see plenty of quality eighties/nineties vehicles on the road.
Vehicle inspections, which have been in place in TX forever are not responsible for not seeing them on the road IMO

I'll agree to this, The rest I'll dispute because there doesn't seem to be an solid evidence (not that it really matters to anyone)Originally posted by Cooter View PostThere were a ton of vehicles scrapped during cash for clunkers. A lot more were also scrapped when steel prices were sky high.

Inspection doesn't do jack for the majority of those cars, since from 75-91 only require a safety inspection.Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View Postoh I know there are people that cheat, especially with insurance. But I still think it serves a purpose
