Sadly, I've accepted that most do not know and cannot state the five rights guaranteed by the 1st amendment. As a result, I realize that those that do know them, in some cases, are out to destroy them completely. The easiest way for elitist pricks to get control is slowly take away your rights (The Bill of Rights) all in the name of safety. I'm pretty sure Benjamin Franklin and others warned about this, but honestly most folks today are just too stupid to see the problem.

Imagine if in 1945 if a police force fired an officer for defending the Constitutional rights of citizens.... what would've happened?

I'm pretty sure the only thing to do at this point is to prepare for the inevitable. I remind all the idiots I meet that you can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of communism. Most of them don't even realize the irony of that and their "gun control" agenda.
