haha, i doubt the train aspect will be too technically in depth because it deals with imaginary rail technology.

The book was a vehicle for Ayn Rand's economic and social philosophies. Although she disliked the term, look up randism for info.

Don't beleive everything you see in a movie. In real life she would of handed the union official a brief case full of cash. After that they would of come to an agreement that any Engineer that currently works for the railroad will make $500 a day and anyone that gets hired from then on out will only make $200a day. Thats the way it works in real life.

huh, I didn't get that at all. Perhaps this is a more of a "fan" or enthusiast movie. I had hopes that it would be able to reach a broader spectrum than the book.

                ..
The book explores a dystopian United States where leading innovators, ranging from industrialists to artists, refuse to be exploited by society. The protagonist, Dagny Taggart, sees society collapse around her as the government increasingly asserts control over all industry (including Taggart Transcontinental, the once mighty transcontinental railroad for which she serves as the operating executive), while society's most productive citizens, led by the mysterious John Galt, progressively disappear. Galt describes the strike as "stopping the motor of the world" by withdrawing the "minds" that drive society's growth and productivity. In their efforts, these "men of the mind" hope to demonstrate that a world in which the individual is not free to create is doomed, that civilization cannot exist where men are slave to society and government, and that the destruction of the profit motive leads to the collapse of society.

It was written in the late '50's ('57/'58). I read it in high school and again in college. It should be an interesting movie, and probably easier to relate to now than it was for me in '70's/'80's.

You'd probably find more (and better) info if you searched for objectivism.

If you do searching for Ayn Rand you probably won't like what you find. This lady was bat shit insane.

I agree. Anyone who believes they have a right to their profits and the fruits of their labor instead of unions must be clinical

I assumed a person would find more on objectivist poets if they searched that term and wanted to be more precise and allow for any connection from randism to objectivism to be the correct "objectivism" and not a wrong turn for someone new to the material.

I have done some searching and I have a copy of A.S. as well as the fountainhead and the new intellectual. I am looking forward to getting a copy of the anthem. To the contrary, I have liked what I have found and I have not come across anything I would describe as "bat shit insane".

I didn't mean in regards to her actual literature. I've read A.S., The Fountainhead, and The Virtue of Selfishness all three. They were great reads. I'm just talking about in regards to her own life, some of the comments she made, contradicting her own beliefs, etc. I'll spare you the details. They can be found pretty easily on Google.

So that we aren't mired in the vast amount of data returned by our searches, and in an effort to understand that to which you refer, would you mind providing us with a couple of links? Shouldn't take you very long at all since you know exactly what you're looking for...
