  • Why are the repubs voting for the TPP?

It sounds like a bad deal for our country.

Fast Track Bill Would Revive Controversial 2002 Mechanism That Faces Broad Congressional & Public Opposition

Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would make it easier for corporations to offshore American jobs, would undermine our wages by forcing Americans to compete with Vietnamese workers making less than 60 cents an hour and would expose our consumer and environmental safeguards to attack by foreign corporations in extra-judicial tribunals.

Although it is called a "free trade" agreement, the TPP is not really mainly about trade.

Of the TPP's 29 draft chapters, only 5 deal with traditional trade issues. Most would set rules on non-trade matters that affect our daily lives: food safety, internet freedom, medicine costs, job off-shoring, financial regulation, and more.

Our domestic policies would be required to comply with the TPP rules.

Because economic isolationism has a 200+ year track record of being a complete and utter failure.

It must be full of awesome since the public can't see it and the senate can't take notes or a phone into the room when they view it. Hooray for the most transparent administration ever!
“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods". That's a procedural matter. You don't want details about trade bills leaking if you can avoid it. It can mess with the whole thing. Also, fast track authority is a good thing, because it makes us keep our word. We get to vote up or down on a negotiated deal, not screw it up and ratify something that wasn't negotiated.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a corporate/investor rights agreement, not a "trade" agreement. "Trade" is a good thing; TPP is not. Using the word "trade" in association with TPP is helping the...

Wikileaks posted some info about the bill and it gives the president unlimited control over immigration. No wonder they don't want anyone to see it.

It's never the bill title that you want to just look at, rather what all has been attached to it.

"The choice" by Roberts should be required reading for every college student.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I'm not interested in any more mystery legislation from that dipshit Obama. BCBS of Texas just asked for a 20% rate increase and a lot of other insurance companies across the country have asked for rate increases of 10-12%.

The guy isn't as smart as he thinks he is, so no thanks.

Is "smart" a relative term? This is split about 50/50 among people, from what I've seen.

Why are the old guard repubs for it?
