This will be great for the blue states up in the north east that already have Amtrak service and the red states will get to pay for it, great plan.
I'd love to be able to hop on a train in Fort Worth and be in Vegas 8-10 hours later or New Orleans in the same time frame. Unfortunately though it's a 30+ hour ride with a dozen stops and that's if you leave on the day their train does. Otherwise it goes through Kansas or Chicago and takes 80 hours. That and it's still more expensive than flying.Last edited by BP; 02-09-2011, 01:01 PM.

If cities and states want to spend money on their infrastructure, more power to them.
Trying to understand how this should be a federal issue other than the typical Socialist wet dreams that seem to occur daily in DC these days.
Anyway, the reason that VP Biden takes the Amtrack to his home state of Delaware is because it is the ONLY state in the Union without any scheduled commercial flights in or out of the state.
I'd like to see how many times that idiot has actually stepped foot on an Amtrack train instead of taking that lazy 2 hour drive in his federally funded VP mobile....
Asshats....

Isn't Amtrak just a giant sinkhole that we throw money down into? I firmly believe that if you could make money moving passengers via rail that BNSF or Union Pacific would be doing it.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

I have lived on the east coast, and part of the reason I hate the east coast is because all the roads are toll roads and they are way more expensive then they are here, not to mention the congested traffic. you have DC, baltimore, philadelphia, trenton, and new york all with all with in all with in 250 miles. so high speed rail make sense in that part of the country.

You can jump on Southwest Airlines and be in Vegas/New Orleans in a few hours.
