It can help but you'll learn more Spanish all be it slang simply by hanging out with Mexicans and asking questions.

I'm all about learning as many languages as possible, but I've got a problem with duh gubment tellin' my kids dey dun needs to lernt summin' other dan white-speak.

I'm decent with Spanish, very choppy and baby-speak with Arabic, and you all already know of my shortcomings in English.

I understand the argument against the madated program, but it wouldn't be the worst thing that happened to a lot of kids...

That's true as well. I'd rather see a mandated language (of any kind) instead of these uniform nazis throwing kids in ISS because their belt isn't code.

That is because of geography. I'm sure if the people in Waco or Oklahoma spoke a different language, we'd all know it too.

It makes sense that one would need to know 3-5 languages when your tiny nation state is bordered by others that use different languages. That being said, English is dominating Europe more and more nowadays.

                  I thought they did?

Seriously, as the years go on this type of stuff is going to become more frequent.

Our world is not as big as it once was.

                    Pretty much this.

English is a globally important language. Matter of fact, every air traffic controller on the planet must be fluent in English. It is a quasi simple language; we have one article, three simple tenses, no grammatical gender, and use the latin alphabet instead of some kooky bullshit.

I've been all over this world (literally) and never had trouble with someone not speaking English to me. I guess the hardest time I had was on some of the bordering cities of Mexico.

I wish I could fluently speak about a half dozen languages without having to work hard for it. LOL

I made two C's as an undergrad and one of them was in Spanish 4. It's sad that after 3 years in HS and 2 more in college that I can't understand someone speaking spanish unless they speak painfully slow.

if you start kids when they're very young, it's not really "work" at all

Rosetta Stone is a good program, especially at the zero dollar download price from the torrent site of your choice...

Same here. As many countries I've been in, I've yet to not have someone understand me in English. Fuck learning Arabic
