  • VA Offers ‘Free Gun Locks’ in Exchange for Owners’ Addresses, Number of Guns

Guess how many locks I'm going to request

A number of veterans say they've received a letter from the Veterans Administration (VA) offering them "free gun locks" if they fill out a form which asks for their address and the number of guns for which they need locks. |

A number of veterans say they’ve received a letter from the Veterans Administration (VA) offering them “free gun locks” if they fill out a form which asks for their address and the number of guns for which they need locks.

The VA is offering up to four locks per veteran.

The Washington Times acquired a copy of the letter and quoted it as saying the VA “[hopes] to reach all our veterans with this offer.” The VA said locks will be mailed to the address remitted on the form.

The letter also says: “As your partner in healthcare, we are committed to keeping you and your family safe… Gun locks have been shown to greatly reduce death and injury caused by firearms in the home. If you own a gun, we hope you will request and use a gun lock.”

The VA letter obtained by the Times was signed by Daniel Hendee, who serves as “director of the VA medical center in Philadelphia.”

I don't own firearms. My time in the peace corps has told me firearms are evil.

Exactly and they claimed it was a contest you could win a prize. They also won't price match unless YOU call with them on speaker phone and get the competing store to say everything exactly as it reads with the price and availability. I waited 45minutes in line for 2 bags of corn.

I know for a while you could get free gun locks at most police stations(and some sherrif's dept.) just by asking. No paperwork, no BS.

Fuck the government and all, but how are they going to know where to send the locks and how many you need if you don't tell them?

I know you can get free locks at Tarrant County College (just go to the police window).

On another note, yeah this is stupid. Almost seems like a scam since the VA will have your address on file if you use any of their services. There are a couple different applications that the VA tries to use to get you to tell them how many guns you have.

                            PO box. Problem solved.

Why would you want a lock on a home defense weapon anyway?

Yep. They are out at my house every 3 months and every time I get the same question and then they pull the wife away to pry as well. "Is he violent, does he have firearms? How many? Where are they exactly?"

                              Nope, go fuck yourself.
