If the dems stick with the strategy of winning elections by giving the country away before too long they will be governing Detroit on a national level. Look at other countries that have been overrun with immigrants to see what our future holds.

Is is my opinion that the country is headed squarely back into a major depression again because available workers now greatly exceeds the number of available jobs, so more people will be on the forced onto the dole and more will be forced into crime to get by. The dems will be 100% responsible for creating their own hell, counting on spending others people's money - which is all gone anyway.

There is a very slim possibility that some conservative politicians might grow a spine and do something about it before it is all lost.

    Yeah, right.....

It will be years before any of these people can vote or will vote.. he is giving out work permits and keeping then from deportation.. this is far from given them citizenship to be able to vote. If they win any votes it will be from there family members that are citizens. ..

This does give congress a really good reason to take border security seriously. He said the amnesty only applies to people that have been here for 5 years. Money is the only thing stopping Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas from using National Guard and state police to guard their borders. Congress could write legislation to give states a ton more money specifically to be used for this purpose. Part of Obama's speech said he wanted to increase border security, he can't veto a bill that's trying to do what he said he'd do.

Let the states run border security, ICE can keep their checkpoints but any manpower they have doing border patrols can be redirected to looking for illegals and deporting them.

I'm 100% against him getting amnesty. He should be prosecuted for his crimes.

            Hello, McFly....

Why do you think the Democrats fight voter ID legislation at every turn? They need the payoff, which is an entrenched voter base.

The only issue is, giving these people legitimacy also gives them opportunity, which means they can now move up from the black market of low skill, low wage jobs. Once they start amassing wealth and have something to lose, poof - they start voting Republican.

in some states it's as easy as bringing in an electric bill... or giving a social security number (real, fake or stolen)

If I was part of the Republican leadership, the first thing I would do in January is pass a comprehensive border security bill. (Not Immigration Bill, just Border Security) and see what the Obama does....

OBAMA: "It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive — only Congress can do that. All we're saying is we're not going to deport you."

THE FACTS: He's saying, and doing, more than that. The changes also will make those covered eligible for work permits, allowing them to be employed in the country legally and compete with citizens and legal residents for better-paying jobs.

OBAMA: "Although this summer, there was a brief spike in unaccompanied children being apprehended at our border, the number of such children is now actually lower than it's been in nearly two years."

THE FACTS: The numbers certainly surged this year, but it was more than a "brief spike." The number of unaccompanied children apprehended at the border has been on the rise since the 2011 budget year. That year about 16,000 children were found crossing the border alone. In 2012, the Border Patrol reported more than 24,000 children, followed by more than 38,800 in 2013. In the most recent budget year, more than 68,361 children were apprehended.

OBAMA: "Overall, the number of people trying to cross our border illegally is at its lowest level since the 1970s. Those are the facts."

THE FACTS: Indeed, in the 2014 budget year the Border Patrol made 486,651 arrests of border crossers, among the fewest since the early 1970s. But border arrests have been on the rise since 2011.

The decline in crossings is not purely, or perhaps even primarily, due to the Obama administration. The deep economic recession early in his presidency and the shaky aftermath made the US a less attractive place to come for work. The increase in arrests since 2011 also can be traced in part to the economy — as the recovery improved, more people came in search of opportunity.

OBAMA: "When I took office, I committed to fixing this broken immigration system. And I began by doing what I could to secure our borders."

THE FACTS: He overlooked the fact that he promised as a candidate for president in 2008 to have an immigration bill during his first year in office and move forward on it quickly. He never kept that promise to the Latino community.

He's just doing the same thing Carter did when he was effectively hobbled. He's going on TV and making big speeches about shit he thinks we should do. In 30 years, liberals will bemoan the fact that we didn't follow this, "great man," and some new asshole will get elected. Boo fucking hoo.
ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

He's not but Biden is probably going to run, assuming the Clintons don't have a bunch of dirt on him. If this starts to look really bad for Obama then Biden could start his campaign based on stopping it and any other executive orders. People drank the Obama koolaid enough to elect him twice, Biden can run with all of the same empty promises but leave out the health care reform and immigration stuff and he'll be a very strong candidate.

Obama to give legal status to almost five million undocumented immigrants

Official calls executive actions “temporary and reversible.”

                        By Zeke J. Miller, TIME

President Barack Obama announced Thursday he is granting temporary legal status and work permits to nearly five million undocumented immigrants living in the country illegally, the largest single immigration action in modern American history.

More than four million undocumented immigrants who are the parents of U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident children will receive new legal status under Obama’s executive action, if they have been living in the country for at least five years, pay back taxes, and pass a criminal background check. Obama, who will formally take the action on Friday at an event in Las Vegas, will also offer temporary status to several hundred thousand immigrants who came to the country as children, but did not qualify for his action on deferred deportations in 2012. This group includes those who were born before 1981 and those who arrived in the U.S. between June 15, 2007 and Jan. 1, 2010.

“Mass amnesty would be unfair,” Obama said in an impassioned address to the nation from the East Room of the White House. “Mass deportation would be both impossible and contrary to our character. What I’m describing is accountability—a commonsense, middle ground approach: If you meet the criteria, you can come out of the shadows and get right with the law. If you’re a criminal, you’ll be deported. If you plan to enter the U.S. illegally, your chances of getting caught and sent back just went up.”

A senior Obama Administration official described the action as a “pretty routine application of enforcement priorities” in a briefing for reporters Thursday afternoon. “It is not a pathway to citizenship. It is temporary and it is reversible.”

The last time such a large number of undocumented immigrants got legal status was through legislation President Ronald Reagan signed in 1986, which gave a path to citizenship for about three million people. There are currently about 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.

The plan, which will be put into place by memoranda and the actions of cabinet officials, will also include new priorities and procedures for detaining and deporting those undocumented immigrants not granted special status. The new deportation priorities will focus on removing criminals, gang members, and those who have arrived in the U.S. since Jan. 1, 2014.

“Felons, not families. Criminals, not children. Gang members, not a mom who’s working hard to provide for her kids,” Obama said. “We’ll prioritize, just like law enforcement does every day.”

“Scripture tells us that we shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger—we were strangers once, too,” Obama added, quoting Exodus. “My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants We were strangers once, too.”

The President and his team decided not to extend the special legal status to the parents of undocumented children, a group that could have covered several hundred thousand additional immigrants. “We made a determination that the law essentially did not support that,” the official said. In a publicly-released memo, the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel wrote that in its opinion Obama could not justify granting deferred action to the parents of those covered by the 2012 “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” program.

That temporary legal status, which was granted to hundreds of thousands of child arrivals in 2012, will now have to be reviewed every three years. Obama compared his action to those taken by every Republican and Democrat for the past 50 years, telling lawmakers on Capitol Hill that if they question his authority to act, “I have one answer: Pass a bill.”

In a video statement released before Obama’s speech, Speaker of the House John Boehner criticized Obama for acting unilaterally. “The President has said before that he’s not king and he’s not an emperor, but he’s sure acting like one,” he said. “And he’s doing it at a time when the American people want nothing more than for us to work together.”

Some Republican governors have threatened to sue to undermine Obama’s action, while on Capitol Hill, GOP lawmakers have threatened to use legislation to try to block or defund the plan. Senior Administration officials said the expansion of temporary legal status would be funded through fees, and therefore could not be defunded by Congress. But Obama aides have not ruled out other legal routes to try to block the measure.

A third Administration official said the President would not sign any such effort into law. “That in and of itself would be something the President would veto,” the official said.

The Democrats just gave themselves five million votes.
