The Immigration Reform and Control Act, Americans were told, was an immigration crackdown that simultaneously “preserves and enhances the nation’s heritage of legal immigration.”

The law lifted more than 2.7 million immigrants out of the shadows and into the U.S. workforce. For the first time, millions of undocumented immigrants could apply for a job, open a bank account, start building credit and even buy their own homes. Undocumented immigrants who had lived in the U.S. continuously before 1982 and were able to pay a $185 fee became eligible for a green card in an expedited process that in many cases took just months to complete.

A bi-partisan bill passed the Senate how long ago?? The House took it up for a vote how many times?? Wait, let's say they broke it up into different parts, then they voted on it. Did they do it?? NO!!!!!. Cowards sons of es sat on their asses and did diddly squat and now the President is going to do what he deems worthy without the approval of Congress. Can't blame him, I blame the House 'leadership' (leadership implying you can actually lead...) for not acting. They had their chance, now the president is doing what he thinks is legal.... This could have been resolved MANY months ago.

The power of the executive is bound only by what is written in the Constitution. Practically every President has left the executive stronger than what they inherited. Obama is continuing that tradition. Is it right or wrong that the power of the executive is much more expansive than what is enumerated in the Constitution? That's an entirely different debate
The House is not obligated to take up any bill it doesn't feel like and a refusal to take up a bill does not empower the executive to act.

Reagan signed a bill into law that was sent to him after it passed both houses, with bipartisan support. That's supposed to be the president's job after all, signing bills into law. He could have vetoed it, that was also part of his job but since it was bipartisan and it passed through congress he signed it.

That's nothing like an executive action, it's really closer to being the exact opposite. There is no comparison between what Reagan did and what Obama is doing.

Obama is going around congress and enacting legislation he knows that neither party would support. He's also testing the new congress. They have ways to shut this down but he's pushing them with something relatively low risk to see what happens. If they write legislation to counteract it he can just use his veto power, then it takes a supermajority to overide. If they manage to overide the veto he knows he's truly a lame duck. If they don't overide it then he's free to rule as an autocrat.

That's interesting. The three major networks have opted out of coverage.

I would like to say that I can't believe he's actually going to do this shit, but I can't. Let's celebrate the occasion with a motorcade through Dallas, lol.

And I'm also seeing that the major networks aren't going to show the speech. I think it's bullshit. They're covering his ass by not showing it.

He's very unpopular and everyone already knows what he's going to say.

It is actually a smart move politically speaking. Amnesty to almost 3 million potential voters..................win win.

If the evil GOP party somehow blocks this.........the fallout will be huge in the Hispanic community..........another win, win.

                              Very devious.

Meanwhile, we--- you and I will have to pay for the added infrastructure that the 3 million soon to be US citizens will be needing. We get fucked either way. Do not like this at all.
