  • Would you do away with ss?

I was arguing with a friend the other day about how social security is really just a scam and theyll be broke soon anyway. I made the points that ss and medicare and medicade and all those BS programs were just socialism and were doomed to fail from their inception. For all kinds of reasons

But his question was this. If you do away with them, or when they finally do fail, what happens to all those people? Ive been accused many times by many people of being heartless, because i say that in reality its not really my problem nor is it my responsibility or theirs. And its not the responsibility of the government to take care of all these people. But im not heartless i do care about them I just see the fundamental flaws in having forced charity. But back to the question. What do you do about those people, if anything? Simply watch them die?

Failure to plan for retirement on their part does not constitute an emergency on mine. I say cancel the programs, but that is just the tip of the iceberg of shit I would get rid of if it were up to me.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

I would do away with it altogether.

        Rough outline **

I'd phase it out. Medicare and ss both.

I would means test anyone 50+, anyone with $1mm or more wouldn't get it., or would stop getting it if they already are getting it. (This would include my grandparents, and largely impact my inheritance, but is the right thing to do. ) $500k+ would get 50% The rest would continue to get it at 75%. No cola, either. They could also take a cash option equal to 1.5x what they put into it, and also not be taxed any longer if they forego the benefits.

Any 45-50 would be subject to same means testing as above, but would get half. (No cola) They could also get 1.25x what they put in, if they forwent the future benefits.

Anyone 40-45, same means testing plus they'd get get a quarter even if they qualified. (No cola). They could get half what they paid in, and also their 7.65% tax cut to 2%

39 and below - a third of the 7.65% tax (medicare and ss combined) would go to fund the groups above, and the rest would either be no longer taxed, or mandating into a self-directed private account.

This would be a 40-45 year phase out, with declining expenditures as people die of old age.

This would still be a cost to the govt for the next 50 years, but a declining one.

The fed is going to keep printing so plenty of money. The question is will it be worth anything when they are done

Make it a defined contribution plan instead of defined benefit.

Social security is $25 TRILLION underfunded - it's negative by over $20 TRILLION. It's a matter of when, not if.

It will go away because it is going to destroy the purchasing power of the dollar. I mean only in a relative sense, the value will be deflated to a more sustainable amount. The old people will keep getting their $2,000 check every month because they cry like babies if someone mentions it might stop. But that $2,000 isn't going to buy much before long.

Well its going to be pretty tough on people like you when it stops. You better hope thats not before youre dead.

Also the old people crying about it if the money stops... see im a bit of a hater when it comes to that kind of thing and it makes me not even care when I hear that type of stuff. Makes me want to see them suffer, in a way. After all why is it all the young peoples responsibility to pay for irresponsible fucks? Oh but we wont be getting paid like we paid for them. Sorry bout that.

Not that i even want it. I dont. The whole idea seems shady and just goes against pretty much everything i believe in. I dont want their scumbag commie money

When people ask my my top 3 worst presidents in history FDR has always been at the top of list prior to BHO. FDR started AIT of the social care programs and began the entitlement mentality that so many people have today.

Would convert SS into a federal savings account that acts like an IRA, that starts at birth. When ever a person needs Federal assistance (housing, food, medical, school) then money can be withdrawn and in some cases borrowed against in a time of need. bankruptcy does not wipe the debt, and if a person owes too much they get to visit the poor house and work it off.

would also institute one year of service with either the military, or job works (out of state infrastructure). A majority of the pay from this would go to the savings account.

I like Andrew Wilkow's idea. If you're 45 and over, you get your payout as normal. 45 and under, you get tax credits to recoup what you paid in and nothing more is taken out.
