Interesting to see the Germans stepping up to plate on this one:
In German, but translates to:
For the first time, the Federal Republic of Germany delivers weapons in a war zone.
The Kurds in northern Iraq are to get anti-tank missiles and machine guns for the fight against ISIS, adopted a ministerial meeting chaired by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Sunday evening.
German weapons in a war zone was previously a taboo, but because of the barbaric acts of terror militia IS in Iraq, the government is making an exception.
The weapons - including 40 machine guns, 500 "Milan" - anti-tank missiles, thousands of assault rifles of types G3 and G36 and 10,000 hand grenades. The "Milan" can destroy the armor of vehicles in up to two kilometers away. Total value of delivery: about 70 million euros.
8000 G36s
8000 G3s
8000 P38s
200 Panzerfaust 3s
300 shoulder fired anti tank weapons
40 MG3s
10,000 hand grenades
8 million rounds of ammo
The weapons are to go directly to the Kurdish autonomous region in northern Iraq to support the struggle of the Kurds against ISIS. The Kurds do not have to pay anything for the weapons. It is not a commercial arms exports, but a so-called "countries levy" of the Bundeswehr, which is not made available to the Kurds in accounting.
For those that don't know, the Kurds have no de-facto nation, but there is a region they control that is colloquially known as Kurdistan. They are a progressive people, letting women hold important positions, allowing freedom of religion, and they even have their own currency, schools, and government bodies.
