Should police be forced to carry non-lethal rounds?

I'm interested to see the debate on this. A friend of mine authored this, more from the standpoint of opening debate, but the feedback he has received has been extremely one sided. People either love the police or FTP.

No. Would you want non-lethal rounds if you were facing down armed criminals with real bullets? I can see how it would benefit in some situations, but put a good cop at a potentially lethal disadvantage in others. Remember the '97 North Hollywood Shootout with injured cops, civilians, and significant property damage. Non-lethal rounds? Um...No

HOWEVER, I do think that body cams should be mandated ASAP.

I don't trust a majority of cops with a firearm on their hips because most of them act like Barney Fife.

Non-Lethal rounds are only good for riot control and other very limited situations (like that guy that was killed sitting in the chair in his driveway). It can be a useful tool but to mandate it or expect them to carry it in their primary service weapon would be ridiculous.

I could see the cops in the UK carrying them (the ones that carry no gun now). It would be better than only a nightstick.

No. With how badly cops aim with lethal rounds, how much damage do you think they're going to do if they think the round isn't going to actually kill someone? They'll draw that weapon first and even 'non lethal' rounds can kill. Body cams and mics that are automatically uploaded to a server that cannot be altered or deleted should be required however

I think cops should continue to escalate situations, provoke people, demand respect for the badge and most important shoot unarmed people.

Touching a cop should get you jail time, not killed by his gun, especially when they have tazors and shit now.
