  • Major General killed in Afghanistan

Wow, a two star general. They also wounded a one star and a German general. We haven't lost a general officer to hostile fire since Vietnam.

It's not a good thing but I'm not surprised either.

There are only 4 American Major Generals under the ISAF, it shouldn't take long to figure out who it was.

I am shocked that there is not a comms blackout that has stretched to us up in the north (German/ISAF). I have not heard from Bagram but I have been trying to lay low myself since I got the warning order to move to HQ. I can only assume that tomorrow is going to be a very busy day in theater.

A E4 gets killed due to the insider threat and nothing changes. Let's see what changes now. You think these people are known to knee jerk and shoot from the hip on a whim. I can only begin to fathom what they might do in the next 24-72 hours.

I believe we lost a 3 star in Iraq but I might be wrong. I want to say I have read that this Major General was the second highest lost since Vietnam due to hostile enemy actions.

Anyone want an over under on the Pres making a Rose Garden address?
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

          He won't.

A 1 star died of natural causes in 2012 and we've lost nearly a dozen full bird Colonels, many of which were reservists.

Fox is saying at least two Afghan generals were also wounded.

I was close. The 3 star died at the Pentagon on 9/11/01 when the plane struck.

Still, this is a HUGE deal, as you guys are aware, of course.

I can't wait to hear what my S2 has to say. We have been discussing insider threat, green on blue for months now and counting ourselves lucky that we have not had any incidents in our AO. Then again, the ANA/ANP stay outside the confines of our perimeters. Unfortunately, for the base I am on now, that was slated to change in a couple months. Now I am being pulled to Bagram for good. So back to no ANA/ANP wondering around armed....for the moment.

U.S. Army Major General Harold Greene was buried today at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, including a caisson, two escort platoons, casket team, firing party, colors team, and a caparisoned horse. The U.S. Army band, “Pershing’s Own,” played softly as the funeral procession made its way down the long hill past the rows of simple white gravestones to bring General Greene to his final resting place.

The graveside service began with a few words, followed by a 13-gun salute. The major general’s widow, Dr. Susan Myers, was seated in the front row. To her right was their son 1st Lt. Matthew Greene, his daughter Amelia Greene, followed by Major General Greene’s father, also Harold Greene.

After three rifle volleys and the playing of “Taps,” the American flag, once placed on the major general’s casket, was carefully folded as the band played “America the Beautiful.” U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno presented the flag to his widow, and additional flags to his children and father.

General Greene, 55, became the highest-ranking fatality in the war in Afghanistan after an Afghan military police officer opened fire on Aug. 5th, 2014.

That does not surprise me at all. If he attended instead of golfing or receiving a rectal exam would surprise me though.

Honestly, would any of you want to have Obama, Biden or Kerry at your funeral service? I'd be fine with Hagel but any of the others would be a distraction. The last thing I'd want is a funerally for Obamacare.
