1. Washington does indeed change its name.

The point here is you can't force a privately owned team to your will. It's bigger than just what the left paints it as, another racist evil white man. I sincerely hope he wins and keeps the name, simply to send a message to the left that we still live in a country of laws. I don't care about any of the particulars, my interest is in what is legally correct here. If he doesn't want to change the name of the team, no one can make him do that. If the public doesn't agree, it will show in his profits, that's how the free market works. This government intervention is tyrannical and completely illegal. People need to stand their ground and fight this absurd injustice. The moment you step outside of the law, you've invalidated your intentions as far as I'm concerned.

This happened in 1999 as well and they lost their trademark and got it back in 03. This is an election year ploy they know they won't win in the long term.
