The city and county departments here both have mrap's and a few various other vehicles. They are used for swat calls only no patrolling.

Most small town police forces can barely afford to keep their Hemi powered Chargers running, as soon as anything breaks on an MRAP they'll be scrapped. It'll be really hard to justify $25k to replace an engine or transmission for something they use in parades.

The one's here are brand new out of rebuild shop. The only thing reused was the cab. Chassis, full power train and even tires are brand new. The mrap was apparently decommissioned after we started pulling out of Iraq.

            Exposed fuel tanks?

Seems easy to pot shot it and then let the MRAP drive itself dry...unless the fuel tank is armored somehow.

They have baffles in the that prevent that from happening. You would think, logically, if they believed vets can build IED's that would kill them without MRAPS, that we wouldn't be able to build bigger ones to take out the super expensive MRAP

Armored and self sealing with the internal baffling. You'd have to put several rounds into it before it'd leak and even then it'd still have enough in reserve to run for a long time. If you managed to hit the fuel lines from the tank to the filter though it'd shut it down pretty quick.

Shape charges, low hanging power lines and IEDs big enough to flip one over are the only ways insurgents have taken them out so far. They'd lose badly to a killdozer with a skilled driver.

Fucking retarded. The big catalyst that got police a whole lot more shit was the North Hollywood Shootout and Columbine. Not one time have I heard of a returning Vet as a terrorist. Departments get them because they are free and who the hell wouldn't want one? They could be great for downed personnel retrieval and high risk entries. Most of the time they will look good parked in front of the station.

I doubt an MRAP could take a .50 BMG API round to the grill. They're designed to leave the occupants alive after an IED, that's it.

They already do. I know I've been called to show how to disassemble them and 240s by local LEOs.

                        The hoods are fiberglass.

Run flats are great, unless you're missing the whole wheel. You shoot up the radiator, it'll stop, you obscure the windows, they'll stop. Seriously, they're not hard to defeat if you look at it and don't see a MRAP but rather a series of parts built by the lowest bidder. Anyone can learn to be anti-armor.

Just a giant ass toy for the police to place soldier.

Yep. Not enough balls to do it for real in a combat zone where there are no laws to protect you from the bad guys, so they have to have the rank and toys of a soldier to feel like Robocop while munching on a donut and flying down 635, reading texts and drinking coffee.

Abilene PD got some type of armored SWAT vehicle for their toy. They didn't have it very long before one of the officers wrecked it... not while responding to a call(which would be a rarity around here anyway), but rather while being taught how to drive it.
