  • Immigration: US Warns Schools Against Bias

The Obama administration said Thursday that troubling reports continue of school districts raising barriers to enrollment for children brought into the U.S. illegally.

The Justice Department and Education Department issued new guidance reminding schools and districts they have a legal obligation to enroll every student regardless of the student's immigration status. The guidance says schools should be flexible in deciding which documents they will accept to prove a student's age or residency.

It also reminds them not to ask about a student's immigration status or require documents such as a driver's license, if that would prevent a student from enrolling because of a parent's immigration status.

The Education Department said it has received 17 complaints since 2011 from states including Colorado, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, Michigan, New Mexico and the District of Columbia.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan said that in some instances, school leaders have inappropriately required information such as a child's visa status or date of entry into the United States.

"Sure Mr. Atty General, let me check. You don't want us to check to see if the little bastards are legally here so that makes YOU an accessory to a federal crime. Please report to prison."

When we hear about how America’s schools are falling behind other countries I would bet this is a major contributor to it. If you have children who live in a home where nobody speaks english how can they get the help that they need to be successful? It pisses me off even more to know that my tax dollars get diverted away from my daughter’s education to pay for someone here illegally. Most of the people here illegally don’t own homes and live in apartment building so even though the owner of the apartment pays taxes it is still a smaller percentage per family then someone who is a home owner.

Dont live in Dallas County. I specifically heard a mother tell the admins she was withdrawing her kid from English class because Spanish is easier to learn at a younger age, and that it would be easier for the kid to learn English once she was older. Which is a statement that contradicts what all educators say. Which is expose kids at a younger age to foreign languages so that their processing skills can function in that language.

Can you imagine if other criminal groups were as catered to as they are? YOU. ARE. VIOLATING. THE. LAW. BY. BEING. HERE.
The only thing they have a right to is to GTFO. The path to citizenship begins on the other side of the border.
