In Denver, eighty-two soldiers in a company on a troop train headed for Trinidad refused to go. The press reported: “The men declared they would not engage in the shooting of women and children. They hissed the 350 men who did start and shouted imprecations at them.”
Good for them, damn shame for the ones who went.

I don't necessarily think it's better any where else, but I certainly am past the point in life where I proudly hang a flag outside my house.
I don't get where what occured in Ludlow equals a black mark on patriotism.

You had an armed gang paid by a corporation, including bribed national guardsman.

If I missed where this was an officially condoned act by the US Gov't, then please correct me - otherwise this was basically a bunch mercenaries bribed and bought by Rockefeller to break a strike.

I could understand if you said it made you anti-corporate, but the patriotic is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.

The corporations own this country, even more so after the last few SC decisions.

The mere fact that the government participated in this is enough to at a minimum raise an eyebrow to patriotism. That coupled with the shenanigans of the last few presidents has got me thinking that being a patriot nowadays is a pretty bad idea. One thing that kinda grates my nerves a bit is if you show even the slightest amount of disagreement with some of the rhetoric you're immediately labeled as anti-American and/or unpatriotic in an attempt to shut you up.

          Blind allegiance is for fools.

It was an awesome series. I wish they would do another similar to it.

My grandfather was a Pinkerton man and was there. Some parts of the family have claimed the old man's involvement was minimal. Others claim he was in it up to his neck. I know he used an assumed name for several years. I suspect he hadn't gone there to sing in the choir.

I never got to ask; he died before I was born.

Morgan fascinates me. His wealth was largely unknown, bu he bankrolled Rockefeller, he also had cart blanche access to the White House, prior to pissing off Teddy Roosevelt. BAMF for sure, and a real prick to boot.

Jason Boland and the Stragglers do a song about it. I would look it up but I'm on my phone.

On my way to Colorado ski trips, I remember seeing a road sign for the Ludlow Massacre. Thanks for the post.

Read up on the Battle of Blair Mountain. Similar story of corporate versus the workers.
