Um..this is normal. Gas always goes up during summer months. However, it's already ridiculously high, again.

factor in china using more oil more for their economy which increases demand as well as the weak dollar yes oil will spike. The days of cheap oil are over as the US economy recovers energy use will rise and oil prices will rise also. Its inevitable. A lot of people don't realize the magnitude of petroleum based products. I'm pretty sure you could point to anything in your house and it is either made from petroleum as a whole or part, or in manufacturing used petroleum. People love to consume, but love to bitch at the same time. They also don't realize that it takes millions of dollars to even take a guess that their "might" be oil under a formation, and then add to that the $$$$$$ it takes to drill and then produce, and then refine, and then ship, and then yada yada yada.
